Brennan Boesch: Announces retirement
Boesch announced Tuesday that he has retired from professional baseball, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
The 31-year-old wasn't able to pick up a spring-training invite from any team after he batted just .221/.266/.345 over 158 plate appearances with Triple-A Pawtucket in the Red Sox organization last season. Prior to that, Boesch had been a respectable platoon outfielder in the big leagues in stints with the Tigers, Yankees, Angels and Reds. Over parts of six seasons in the majors, Boesch hit .250 and amassed 48 homers, good for a career wRC+ of 89.

Red Sox's Brennan Boesch: Reports to Triple-A Pawtucket
Boesch (wrist) was activated off the disabled list Friday and reported to Triple- A Pawtucket, Bill Koch of the Providence Journal reports.
Boesch wasn't in the PawSox's lineup Friday, but after a lengthy rehab stint at extended spring training and fresh from the Gulf Coast League, the six-year veteran's arrival comes at an opportune time as Boston deals with injuries in the outfield. If Boesch can get back to the form that made him a regular with the Tigers from 2010-12, the Red Sox may need his services in Boston.

Red Sox's Brennan Boesch: Assigned to minor league camp
Boesch was reassigned to minor league camp Monday.
Boesch underwent wrist surgery last week and is expected to miss 2-to-3 months, so his exclusion from the Opening Day roster comes as no surprise. The soon-to-be-31-year-old likely didn't stand much of a chance of making the roster anyway, and the injury further impedes any opportunity he had to work his way back to the majors later in the year.
