Emmanuel Burriss: Moves into coaching career
The Dodgers announced Monday that Burriss will join the organization as the hitting coach at Triple-A Oklahoma City, signaling the end of the 36-year-old's playing days.
Burriss had actually been in line to serve as Oklahoma City's hitting coach in 2020 before the cancellation of the minor-league season. The switch-hitting infielder's last professional action came in 2017 at Triple-A Syracuse in the Nationals organization. Prior to that, Burriss appeared in parts of seven big-league seasons from 2008 through 2016, slashing a collective .237/.300/.266 with one home run and 41 stolen bases in 326 games between the Giants, Nationals and Phillies.

Angels' Emmanuel Burriss: Comes to terms with Angels
Burriss agreed to a minor-league deal with the Angels on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group reports.
Burriss last played in the big leagues with the Phillies in 2016, earning 50 plate appearances over 39 games, although he slashed just .111/.184/.178. The 33-year-old spent last season at the Triple-A level of the Nationals' system, but he wound up missing 50 games due to a second positive test for a drug of abuse. He will likely serve as organizational depth for the Angels this season as he's expected to begin the season with Triple-A Salt Lake.

Nationals' Emmanuel Burriss: Returns from suspension
Burriss (suspension) is 1-for-8 with a run scored and a walk since being activated from the restricted list Friday.
The veteran was suspended 50 games after testing positive for drugs of abuse back in April, but he's back in action after serving that sentence in full. He's only played in two games since being activated, though, so it seems like he's only playing part-time in the minors. He'll likely just act as an organizational depth piece for the rest of the season.

Burriss signed on with the Nationals on a minor-league deal this winter but was unable to crack the Opening Day roster. Given the Nationals' depth up the middle, it's unlikely the 32-year-old will do anything other than serve as organizational depth upon his return.

The veteran latched on with the Nationals on a minor league deal this winter and struggled to get on base this spring (.290 OBP) despite striking out just once in 28 at-bats. The Nationals' depth up the middle meant that Burriss was a long shot to crack the Opening Roster when he signed. He'll head to minor league camp and will likely start the season with Triple-A Syracuse.

After collecting a couple of hits in his first two games of spring, Burris has gone cold. He's just 2-for-11 in seven games this March, and hasn't knocked anything for more than a single.
