Kyle Blanks: Cut loose by Giants
Blanks was released by the Giants on Friday, Alec Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The oft-injured first baseman batted just .232 in 34 games with Triple-A Sacramento, so the Giants opted to part ways with him to make room for other higher-upside prospects. Blanks has a good amount of big-league experience to his name, but his injury history could deter any potential suitors in free agency.

Giants' Kyle Blanks: Returns to Giants on minor league deal
Blanks (Achilles) re-signed with the Giants on a minor league contract Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Blanks missed all of the 2016 season due to a lingering issue with his Achilles, but when he's healthy, he possesses solid right-handed power. The slugger could compete for a bench role out of spring training, although his recurring health issues could hamper his ability to do so.

Giants' Kyle Blanks: Aggravates Achilles injury
Blanks was scratched from Thursday's spring training game with a right Achilles injury, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Blanks has had surgery on both heels and was dealing with pain in that same Achilles earlier in spring training. Blanks is in the running for a bench job in San Francisco if he can get healthy, but if not, it will open the door for a player like Grant Green or Gorkys Hernandez to grab that open outfield spot on the Giants roster.

Giants' Kyle Blanks: Blasts second home run of the spring
Blanks (Achilles) smacked his second home run of the spring against the White Sox on Monday.
Blanks is recovering from surgery on both of his Achilles tendons this offseason. His strong start in spring training is a good sign for his health and for his chances to stick with the Giants this season. Blanks was signed to a minor league contract in November, so the Giants weren't expecting him to be on the 25-man roster. If he can continue to flash his power then Blanks may force San Francisco's hand, especially considering their need for right-handed power off of the bench.

Giants' Kyle Blanks: Minor league deal with Giants
Blanks (Achilles) has agreed to a minor league contract with the Giants, pending a physical, Andrew Baggarly of the Bay Area News Group reports.
The "pending a physical" part is no formality with Blanks, who was limited to 18 games last season due to Achilles tendinitis, and had to have both Achilles' tendons operated on in the offseason. Blanks brings some pop and can draw a walk, but he's limited defensively. A short-end platoon role with Brandon Belt at first base would likely be a best-case scenario for Blanks in 2016.

Kyle Blanks: Elects free agency
Blanks has elected free agency, SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports.
While Blanks fared well when on the field for a second consecutive season, his issues with Achilles tendinitis persisted, limiting him to a mere 18 games for Texas. He was outrighted off the Rangers' 40-man roster last week. The 29-year-old will look to latch on with another club, but his availability for the start of spring training is uncertain after he had surgery on both of his Achillies' tendons in September.

Rangers outright former prospect Kyle Blanks from 40-man roster
One-time premier power prospect Kyle Blanks has been outrighted off the 40-man roster by the Rangers, per Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Blanks had surgery on both of his Achilles near the beginning of September and it remains to be seen how healthy he might be heading into the offseason. The 29 year old does have the option to become a free agent, so it remains to be seen whether he will accept his assignment to Triple-A Round Rock.
