Ryan Mattheus: Released by Reds
Mattheus was released from Triple-A Louisville, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports.
Mattheus failed to earn a bullpen spot on the major league roster during camp, and didn't fare much better in the minors, allowing five earned runs on eight hits and four walks during his first seven innings of the year. He'll look to catch on elsewhere on a low-risk deal to provide organizational pitching depth.

Reds' Ryan Mattheus: Reassigned to minor league camp
Mattheus was one of four relievers sent by the Reds to their minor league camp.
Also sent down were J.C. Ramirez, Pedro Villarreal and Drew Hayes. There's still a battle for at least one bullpen job, but Mattheus probably had the best chance among the four given his previous experience, but wasn't on the 40-man roster.

Reds' Ryan Mattheus: Returns to Reds on minor league deal
Mattheus agreed to a minor league contract with the Reds on Friday that includes an invite to spring training, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Cincinnati declined to tender Mattheus a contract at the end of the 2015 season, but will welcome the right-hander back on a minors deal with a chance to earn a bullpen spot in the spring. Mattheus does not have the swing-and-miss stuff to replace Aroldis Chapman as the Reds' closer (career 5.3 K/9), but he generates groundballs at a good clip and lowered his walk rate back below 3.0 BB/9 last season.

Ryan Mattheus: Will be non-tendered by Reds
Mattheus will not be tendered a contract by the Reds, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
The Reds took a flier on Mattheus after the Angels designated him for assignment in mid-May, but he did not impress the team enough to earn a contract tender heading into his first winter of arbitration eligibility. Another team will likely bring in the right-hander on the cheap, because while he rarely misses bats, Mattheus is able to keep the ball on the ground and he showed improved control in 2015.
