Yonder Alonso: Announces retirement
Alonso announced his retirement on his personal Instagram page Friday.
Alonso called it quits after failing to earn any big-league playing time in 2020. He'll finish his decade-long career with exactly 100 homers, 28 of which came during his uncharacteristically strong 2017 campaign for the Athletics and Mariners. He also spent time in the big leagues with the Reds, Padres, Indians, White Sox and Rockies, grabbing 872 hits while slashing .259/.332/.404.

Padres' Yonder Alonso: Returns to San Diego
Alonso was acquired by the Padres from the Braves on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
The 33-year-old was previously with the Friars from 2012 to 2015 and will rejoin the club after failing to secure a role with the Braves in summer camp. Alonso was placed on the restricted list with Atlanta after failing to make the Opening Day roster, and he's now making his way back to San Diego. He appeared in 121 games between the Rockies and White Sox last year and had a .199/.296/.346 slash line and 10 homers in 335 plate appearances.

Braves' Yonder Alonso: Placed on restricted list
Alonso was placed on the restricted list Monday.
The reason for the move is not entirely clear. Alonso was outrighted off the 40-man roster Thursday, but it seems as though he won't be part of the team's player pool at the Braves' alternate training site.

Alonso was outrighted off of Atlanta's roster Thursday.
Matt Adams, who signed with the Braves earlier in the week, was added to the roster in a corresponding move. Alonso will look to latch on elsewhere, though he may be forced to settle for a minor-league deal after hitting just .199 with 10 home runs in 121 games last season.

Braves' Yonder Alonso: Added to major-league roster
Alonso's contract was selected by the Braves on Saturday.
Alonso signed a minor-league contract with the Braves in February and didn't fare very well during spring training. However, he apparently impressed enough during summer camp to earn a spot on the major-league roster to open the season. While the 33-year-old might not have a role in the majors over the entire season, he could see some playing time early on if Freddie Freeman (illness) isn't ready for Opening Day.

Alonso will be a part of the Braves' 60-man roster, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Alonso signed a minor-league deal with the Braves in February after hitting .199/.296/.346 with 10 home runs and 37 RBI over 335 plate appearances with the White Sox and Rockies in 2019. The 33-year-old didn't fare very well in major-league spring training this year, going just 1-for-25 with six strikeouts and two walks.

Braves' Yonder Alonso: Signs minors deal with Atlanta
Alonso signed a minor-league contract with the Braves on Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Alonso spent time with the Rockies and White Sox in 2019, hitting .199/.296/.346 with 10 home runs, 37 RBI and 34 runs in 335 plate appearances. The 32-year-old aims to become the backup first baseman behind four-time All-Star Freddie Freeman, depending on whether Austin Riley earns the everyday third-base job in spring training. Alonso will look to make an impact during spring training in an effort to solidify his spot on the Braves' opening day roster as a power-hitting option off the bench.

Rockies' Yonder Alonso: Plates run in loss
Alonso went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 11-4 loss to the Cardinals.
Alonso was making just his seventh start of August while regular first baseman Daniel Murphy received a maintenance day. As a veteran on a non-contending club who is headed for free agency this winter, Alonso is unlikely to see a notable uptick in opportunities over the final few weeks of the season unless Murphy succumbs to an injury.

Alonso went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in a 3-2 loss against the Reds on Sunday.
The long ball was his first with the Rockies since joining the team on July 23. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come for Alonso, who has two multiple hit games and two instances of coming through with pinch hits in six games with the Rockies. Overall, Alonso is batting .195 with eight home runs, 30 RBI and 27 runs in 231 at-bats with the White Sox and Rockies this season, but he's 6-for-12 (.500) in Colorado.

Rockies' Yonder Alonso: Two doubles in first start for Rox
Alonso went 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles and two runs scored in a 3-2 loss to the Nationals during the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
Making his first start for the Rockies and hitting fifth, Alonso scored the club's only two runs on the afternoon. The 32-year-old isn't likely to see consistent action for Colorado, as he doesn't even offer a platoon advantage at first base against LHP over Daniel Murphy. However, Alonso can only help his chances for playing time with performances like this.

Rockies' Yonder Alonso: Earns promotion to big leagues
Alonso will have his contract selected from Triple-A Albuquerque prior to Tuesday's game against the Nationals, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
Alonso was scooped up by the Rockies on July 11, and after spending nearly two weeks in the minors, he'll be called up to the big club. He'll take the spot of Mark Reynolds, who was designated for assignment Sunday.

The White Sox have requested release waivers on Alonso.
He was designated for assignment on June 28 and now becomes a free agent. Part of the reason the White Sox brought Alonso aboard was an attempt to convince Manny Machado (his brother-in-law) to sign there this past offseason. That didn't happen, obviously, and Alonso went on to hit .178 with seven home runs in 67 games. He should be able to latch on somewhere else, although he may have to settle for a minor-league deal.

White Sox's Yonder Alonso: Dropped from 40-man roster
Alonso was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Thursday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Alonso is slashing just .178/.275/.301 with seven home runs through 67 games this season, prompting the White Sox to cut their losses and remove the lefty from their 40-man roster. The team has not yet announced a corresponding roster move. Given the amount of money Alonso is owed the rest of the season, he has a chance to pass through waivers untouched and opts for free agency.
