Padres' Luis Perdomo: Loses to Rockies in Sunday's spot start
Making his second spot start of the season, Perdomo (1-2) was less than impressive against the Rockies on Sunday. He lasted just 4.1 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out three.
Filling in for James Shields after the veteran was traded to White Sox, Perdomo may have lost the trust of manager Andy Green for future starts. The rookie has been afforded plenty of opportunities to make a positive impression, but his 10.38 ERA and 2.41 WHIP tell you everything you need to know. He had a nice run of four consecutive scoreless innings in mid-April, but has allowed a run in nine of his last 10 appearances. The 23-year-old, who's never pitched past single-A in the minors, may have been pushed along too quickly, as he's obviously struggling to find himself in the majors.

Padres' Luis Perdomo: Will join rotation following Shields trade
Manager Andy Green said Perdomo would receive the start Sunday against the Rockies.
With the Padres dealing James Shields to the White Sox on Saturday, Perdomo will join the rotation on at least a temporary basis to fill the void. The 23-year-old has made one previous spot start for the Padres, but has served in relief in all of his other 14 appearances, accruing a 10.04 ERA, 2.46 WHIP, and 21:17 K:BB ratio across 26 innings.

Padres' Luis Perdomo: Last just two innings in first start this season
Perdomo was only able to pitch two innings and allowed two runs on four hits in a spot start against the Brewers on Saturday.
The 23-year-old received a spot start because of a rash of injuries to the Padres rotation. He threw a season-high 61 pitches, but he was only able to get through two frames. San Diego used eight pitchers to win the 12-inning affair 8-7. The Padres haven't decided whether Perdomo, who has a 9.77 ERA in 15.2 innings, will receive another start.

Padres' Luis Perdomo: Set for spot start Saturday
Perdomo will start Saturday's game against the Brewers.
It may just be a spot start for Perdomo, as the Padres will likely have to lean heavily on their bullpen Saturday against the Brewers due to a rash of injuries to their rotation recently. Brad Hand is expected to follow Perdomo in long relief Saturday, and it's reasonable to think that he'll throw something in the neighborhood of 60 pitches after reaching 48 in his last appearance May 10.

Padres' Luis Perdomo: Records three consecutive scoreless appearances
Perdomo has bounced back from his early season struggles, recording three consecutive scoreless outings in relief.
Following Perdomo's MLB debut disaster in which he gave up six earned runs in one inning, the reliever has settled down and allowed three hits and no earned runs over his last three appearances. The 22-year-old jumped from Low-A to the majors this year so its obvious the Padres see potential in him. The non-contender Padres seem comfortable assessing their young righty's abilities during 2016 even though there will likely be some bumps in the road.

Padres' Luis Perdomo: Hit hard in MLB debut
Perdomo gave up six runs on six hits with two walks in one inning in his MLB debut in Monday's loss to the Dodgers.
Perdomo had a rough MLB debut, but the Padres will likely be patient with the Rule 5 pick. San Diego may keep him on the roster all season despite his performance with an eye toward keeping him for the future.

Padres' Luis Perdomo: Still in bullpen competition
Perdomo threw a scoreless inning in Thursday's spring training loss to Arizona. Despite a spring 15.43 ERA, manager Andy Green says he's still in the mix for a bullpen job, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Green has been impressed with Perdomo's new split-finger fastball he's debuted this spring. Despite his poor spring stats (12 ER and 3 HR allowed in 7 innings), it's possible the Padres could keep him on the 25-man roster with an eye toward the future since he's a Rule 5 pick.
