Steve Clevenger: Signs with independent league
Clevenger has signed with Lancaster in the independent Atlantic League, Rich Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Clevenger drew little interest from MLB organizations throughout the offseason, but has finally found a home in the independent leagues. The 31-year-old has a career .227/.284/.324 slash line in the majors and is unlikely to get an opportunity in 2017.

Steve Clevenger: Opts for free agency
Clevenger elected free agency Friday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Clevenger was outrighted to Triple-A on Wednesday, but it comes as no surprise that he declined that decision after the tumultuous end to his tenure in Seattle. The 30-year-old took a step back at the plate during the 2016 season, so it might be tough for him to be anything more than a backup catcher heading into 2017.

Mariners' Steve Clevenger: Outrighted to Triple-A
Clevenger (hand) was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
He was removed from the suspended list on Oct. 31 and has now been removed from the 40-man roster. Clevenger posted a series of offensive tweets in September and the general consensus is that his days of playing major league baseball are over. He is a strong candidate to be non-tendered this offseason.

Mariners' Steve Clevenger: Suspended for rest of season
Clevenger (hand) was suspended by the Mariners for the remainder of the season without pay following a series of racist tweets he sent out Thursday night, the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish reports.
He was already on the 60-day DL and unlikely to return this season, so this move simply docks him a paycheck and sends a message. Many in the game were calling for him to be released by the Mariners following his insensitive and offensive tweets, so it seems he got off fairly easy for now. Clevenger is arbitration eligible after the season and does not become a free agent until 2020, as things currently stand. The 30-year-old backstop has a career .227/.284/.324 slash line and grades out as an average defensive catcher.

Mariners' Steve Clevenger: Comeback stopped due to flexor strain
Clevenger, who is on the 60-day disabled list due to a broken hand, suffered a flexor strain in his right elbow that will end any chance of playing again this season.
Clevenger was hoping to return this season, but now has his sights set on playing winter ball and being 100 percent for spring training.

Mariners' Steve Clevenger: Transferred to 60-day disabled list
Clevenger has been transferred to the 60-day DL, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Clevenger was said to be out "at least a month" for the Mariners. It looks like that timetable has been pushed back a little bit as he recovers from his broken hand. Jesus Sucre will now serve at the backup catcher in Seattle behind Chris Iannetta.

Mariners' Steve Clevenger: Undergoes successful surgery
Clevenger underwent successful surgery Friday to repair his fractured right hand, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
Clevenger suffered a fractured third metacarpal bone in his hand Wednesday when he was struck by a foul tip, and he had to have a metal plate and six screws inserted into the hand Friday. Reports from earlier in the week suggested Clevenger would be out "at least a month." Mike Zunino has taken over as the backup catcher in Seattle.

Mariners' Steve Clevenger: To undergo surgery Friday
Clevenger (hand) will undergo surgery in hopes of having a quicker recovery time, Shannon Drayer of ESPN 710 in Seattle reports.
Clevenger is dealing with a broken bone in his right hand that he suffered Wednesday, and he was subsequently placed on the disabled list Thursday. Drayer notes in her report that Clevenger hopes to return before the end of the season by undergoing surgery, so it sounds as though he could be looking at a lengthy recovery time overall. Mike Zunino, who was called up to replace Clevenger on the roster, will have fantasy value as long as Clevenger is sidelined.

Mariners' Steve Clevenger: Lands on 15-day DL
Clevenger (hand) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
This move was expected after Clevenger suffered a fractured right hand on a foul tip Wednesday. The Mariners recalled catcher Mike Zunino in a corresponding move Thursday to replenish their depth behind the plate. Clevenger was slashing .221/.303/.309 as the Mariners' backup catcher prior to landing on the DL.
