  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Swipes bag in Sunday's loss

Iglesias went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Reds. With Jeff McNeil (wrist) done for the season, the door is open for Iglesias to get an everyday role at second base down the stretch for the Mets. The 34-year-old infielder has been remarkably productive since joining the team in late May, and he's slowed down only a little in the second half, slashing .278/.326/.329 over 86 plate appearances since the beginning of August. Iglesias offers effectively no power and only a little speed, but consistent playing time will still give him some fantasy upside in deep formats.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Game-winning RBI against Arizona

Iglesias went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Diamondbacks. The veteran infielder came up big when it mattered, bringing home Tyrone Taylor with a single up the middle in the top of the ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Iglesias continues to get consistent playing time at second base while occasionally filling in at third base, and through 65 plate appearances in August he's slashing .276/.338/.328 with two steals, five runs and five RBI.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: On base three times Thursday

Iglesias went 2-for-4 with a walk in Thursday's loss to the A's. The veteran infielder got the start at second base and batted sixth, and he kept up the offensive production that has pushed him into a regular role. Even with Jeff McNeil turning things around at the plate, Iglesias has started eight of 13 games so far in August, batting .313 (10-for-32) with two doubles, three RBI and four runs. The lack of counting stats makes him tough to roster in shallower formats, however, and with Starling Marte (knee) potentially returning from the IL this weekend, Iglesias could find himself relegated to the short side of a platoon with McNeil at the keystone.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Likely to lose playing time

Iglesias is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. After going 2-for-18 at the plate while starting each of the Mets' past five games, Iglesias will hit the bench for Monday's series opener. With his bat cooling down of late, Iglesias may find himself at risk of moving to a short-side platoon role. The newly acquired Jesse Winker is expected to serve as a regular starter in the outfield when the Mets face right-handed pitching, which will likely result in Jeff McNeil moving back to the keystone.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Absent from lineup

Iglesias is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Yankees. Iglesias has essentially been a regular this month, splitting starts between second and third base. He'll begin this one on the bench, with Jeff McNeil covering the keystone and Mark Vientos handling the hot corner.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Racks up four hits

Iglesias went 4-for-4 with two runs scored during Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Rockies. Iglesias reached safely in all five of his plate appearances and tied a career high with four hits. The veteran second baseman has been integral to the Mets' turnaround, slashing .380/.417/.582 with three home runs, 14 runs, 16 RBI and an 8.3 percent K rate since joining the Mets' 26-man roster May 31.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: First career two-homer game

Iglesias went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Friday's 7-6 win over the Rockies. The veteran infielder took Tanner Gordon deep in the second inning before turning around a Peter Lambert fastball in the fifth, giving Iglesias his first career multi-homer performance in his 1,124th big-league game. Jeff McNeil has been bouncing between the keystone and a corner outfield spot with Starling Marte (knee) on the shelf, but McNeil would likely be losing playing time at second base even if the rest of the roster was healthy -- in 79 plate appearances since joining the Mets, Iglesias is slashing .347/.380/.560 with seven doubles, three home runs, 12 runs and 16 RBI.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Rejoining lineup Friday

Iglesias (illness) is starting at second base and batting seventh Friday against the Rockies, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The veteran infielder sat out Thursday's contest due to an illness but is back in action for Friday's series opener versus Colorado. Iglesias has carried a hot bat of late and is hitting .286 with an .820 OPS in his past 10 games.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Feeling ill Thursday

Iglesias is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals due to an illness, Steve Gelbs of SportsNet New York reports. Though he had been expected to start Thursday against southpaw MacKenzie Gore, the right-handed-hitting Iglesias apparently felt ill during Wednesday's 6-2 win and required an IV after cramping up following the game. Iglesias is apparently still feeling under the weather Thursday, so the Mets will let him rest in the series finale while Jeff McNeil steps in at second base.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Hitting bench Thursday

Iglesias is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Though he'll hit the bench Thursday, Iglesias seems to have pushed his way into a near-everyday role in the New York infield. He had started in five of the previous six games, and he turned in another strong performance in Wednesday's 6-2 win, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs. Jeff McNeil will cover second base Thursday, but McNeil could end up seeing more time in the corner outfield if the Mets want to continue opening up regular playing time in the infield for Iglesias.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Collects three hits in victory

Iglesias went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI in Wednesday's 6-2 win against Washington. Iglesias had been running cold in July coming into Wednesday, batting .185 (5-for-27) over eight contests. However, he's continued to start on a consistent basis, as he's been in the lineup -- primarily at second base -- in five of the Mets' past six contests. That certainly paid off for the team Wednesday, as Iglesias collected three hits, including a tiebreaking two-run single in the sixth frame. The veteran infielder is batting a robust .338 on the campaign, albeit with just one homer and one steal over 27 games.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Getting fourth straight start

Iglesias will start at second base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Pirates, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. The Mets will include Iglesias in the lineup for a fourth straight game and for the third time against a right-handed starting pitcher (Mitch Keller). Though the right-handed-hitting Iglesias initially looked set to serve as a short-side platoon mate at the keystone for Jeff McNeil, the Mets may be compelled to make regular room for both players in the lineup against right-handed pitching. McNeil will pick up a start in right field Monday and could end up seeing more frequent opportunities at that position so long as Starling Marte (knee) remains on the injured list. Since getting called up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 31, Iglesias has slashed .333/.373/.476 with one home run and one stolen base across 67 plate appearances.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Launches first homer

Iglesias went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Monday's extra-inning win over the Nationals. Getting the start at second base against southpaw MacKenzie Gore and batting eighth, Iglesias didn't make his mark until the 10th inning, when he drove the first pitch Jordan Weems threw over the center-field fence to wrap up a six-run frame for the Mets. While his first homer of the season came against a right-hander pitcher, Iglesias has thrived in his short-side platoon role, producing a 1.147 OPS in 29 plate appearances against lefties since joining New York's big-league roster.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Two doubles in three-hit effort

Iglesias went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Astros. Iglesias has gone 7-for-17 over his last 10 contests, recording a plate appearance in just seven of those games. Over 43 plate appearances this year, he's batting .425 with seven RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base and four doubles, but the typically light-hitting infielder has yet to hit a home run. Iglesias' best path to playing time is at second base, where he's currently on the short side of a platoon with Jeff McNeil, who is hitting just .221 on the year and .211 in June.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Four hits, three RBI in win

Iglesias went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in Friday's 11-1 win over the Cubs. Iglesias was active early, singling and scoring a run in the second inning, hitting an RBI single in the third and adding a two-run single in the fourth. He later added another base hit in the seventh. Iglesias has gone an impressive 14-for-32 with six RBI and five runs scored in his return to the majors while primarily starting at second base against left-handed pitchers.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Retreating to bench Wednesday

Iglesias is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins. Iglesias had started at second base in five of the past six games while the Mets faced a lefty-heavy schedule, but he'll retreat to the bench Wednesday even though Miami is bringing southpaw Braxton Garrett to the hill. Jeff McNeil will get the nod at second base and remains the Mets' top option at the keystone, but Iglesias should continue to play ahead of McNeil against most lefties.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Three hits in Monday's win

Iglesias went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Monday's 8-7 win over the Nationals. Getting the start at second base and batting eighth with left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the mound for the Nats, Iglesias produced his first three-hit performance since August 2022 -- and that game was in Coors Field. The 34-year-old was added to the roster to provide infield depth, but he's begun his Mets tenure by going 5-for-11 with a stolen base. With Jeff McNeil stumbling to a career-worst .227/.296/.320 slash line and 103.9 mile-per-hour max exit velocity so far, the door could be open for Iglesias to see more playing time than expected at the keystone, and potentially even take over the starting job.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: First MLB action since 2022

Iglesias is batting eighth and playing second base Friday against the Diamondbacks. After spending the last year and change in the minor leagues, Iglesias got called up from Triple-A Syracuse and will give Jeff McNeil a breather Friday. Iglesias figures to operate as a reserve infielder with the Mets and is capable of playing second, shortstop and third base.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Added to roster

The Mets selected Iglesias' contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. The Mets have been playing without a true backup middle infielder of late, but that will change with Iglesias being added to the roster. The 34-year-old has slashed .273/.309/.442 with seven home runs this season at Syracuse.

  • Mets' Jose Iglesias: Unlikely to opt out

Iglesias is expected to report to Triple-A Syracuse after he said Sunday that he doesn't plan to exercise the opt-out clause in his minor-league deal with the Mets, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. After being informed Saturday that he wouldn't be included on the Mets' Opening Day roster, Iglesias looked like a candidate to request a release that would allow him to sign elsewhere, but he'll instead stick around in the organization a little longer to begin the season. If a promotion to the majors isn't imminent in the first few weeks of the minor-league season, however, Iglesias could change his mind and pursue an opportunity elsewhere.
