Phillies' Alexi Amarista: Signs minor-league deal with Phillies
Amarista signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Monday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Amarista spent the spring in camp with the Tigers but failed to earn a spot on the team. The 28-year-old has a good deal of positional flexibility, having played everywhere except catcher and first base in his seven-year major-league career, though according to UZR he only grades out positively at third base and left field. Combined with a career .231/.275/.323 slash line, that makes Amarista little more than minor-league depth. He could earn a brief call-up at some point again this season but is unlikely to be much of a fantasy asset even if he ends up with unexpected playing time.

Alexi Amarista: Granted release
Amarista was released by the Tigers on Saturday, Evan Woodbery of MLive Media Group reports.
Amarista was invited to camp on a minor-league deal but failed to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster. He will now look to latch on with another organization after playing in 96 games for the Rockies last season, when he slashed .238/.269/.351 with three home runs and 19 RBI. Even if he's able to find a home in the near future, it's unlikely that he will be relevant for fantasy purposes.

Tigers' Alexi Amarista: Invited to Tigers camp
Amarista signed a minor-league deal with the Tigers on Tuesday which includes an invitation to spring training, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The 28-year-old utility man hit .238/.269/.351 in 176 plate appearances for the Rockies last season, not far off his career line of .231/.275/.323. He has now been a below-replacement-level player according to fWAR for five of his seven career seasons, but by joining one of the weakest teams in the league, he has a chance to earn some major-league playing time. He received starts at six different positions for Colorado last year and that versatility could grant him a spot on the end of the Tigers' bench.

Alexi Amarista: Set to become free agent
Amarista had his $2.5 million 2018 option declined by the Rockies, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Amarista will receive a $150,000 buyout and will become a free agent. The 28-year-old had a disappointing .238 batting average, to go with three home runs and 19 RBI in 96 games last season.

The 28-year-old never carved out a huge role for the Rockies, as he remained a mere bench piece even when injuries struck Colorado's regulars. His positional versatility is a boon to his real-life value, but his fantasy value is severely capped while he's limited to infrequent pinch-hit appearances. He also wasn't afforded many chances to run in 2017, as he attempted just one stolen base all year.

Amarista's positional flexibility has provided him an opportunity to carve out a utility role, but he's still not receiving consistent starts. Additionally, his .248/.275/.380 slash line isn't moving the fantasy needle in most settings. Amarista is definitely worth considering as a low-priced flier in daily contests when he's in the starting lineup for home games, though.

Rockies' Alexi Amarista: Struggling since hot start
Amarista has a .145/.190/.200 slash line in 59 plate appearances since the start of June.
Amarista was slashing .338/.348/.480 through the first two months of the season, but has since fallen off considerably. The regression isn't altogether surprising given the 28-year-old's subpar career numbers at the plate. Versatility remains Amarista's greatest asset by far, as he has seen time at every position besides first base, pitcher, and catcher this season.

Rockies' Alexi Amarista: Returns to bench role after brief starting stint
Amarista is not in the lineup Thursday against the Reds.
Amarista has filled in as the primary second baseman the past two days while Dj LeMahieu was sidelined with a groin injury, although "The Little Ninja" failed to capitalize on his expanded opportunities. The utility man has just one hit in his last 22 at-bats (.045 batting average) and struck out six times in that span. Despite his recent struggles, he still possesses a .659 OPS on the season, which is one of the best marks of his career in that category. With LeMahieu back in action and the rest of the Rockies' infield in good health, Amarista will settle back into a super utility role off the bench for the foreseeable future.

Rockies' Alexi Amarista: Returns from paternity leave
Amarista (personal) was activated off the paternity list Thursday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
The Little Ninja ended up missing two days of action while attending to the birth of his daughter. Now that he's back on the roster, Amarista will resume his normal role as a super-utility player off the Rockies' bench. Jordan Patterson was sent back to Triple-A to make room for him on the active roster.

Amarista and Pat Valaika had been splitting duties at shortstop following Trevor Story's placement on the disabled list earlier in May, but both will lose out on consistent at-bats with Story making his return to the lineup Wednesday. Of the two utility infielders, Amarista likely has a better chance than Valaika to stick around as a reserve option. Amarista has been stellar at the plate when called upon this season, hitting .379 with two homers and 13 RBI in 59 plate appearances.

Amarista is out of the lineup Sunday against the Reds, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
After starting the last two games and amassing five hits -- three for extra bases -- and six RBI, Amarista seems to have emerged as manager Bud Black's preferred option at shortstop while Trevor Story (shoulder) has been sidelined. Amarista will give way to Pat Valaika on Sunday, but looks like the better bet of the two players to stick around when Story is activated from the disabled list, perhaps in the coming days.

Rockies' Alexi Amarista: Goes deep in win
Amarista went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in Friday's 12-6 win over Cincinnati.
The super-utility player is making quite an impression with the Rockies, as he's now raised his slash line on the season to .341/.356/.568 through 45 plate appearances. It's reasonable to believe that the lifetime .233 hitter is due for some regression back towards his career norms, but the Rockies should give him more plate appearances for as long as his bat stays hot.

Rockies' Alexi Amarista: Producing well in limited role
Amarista holds a .314/.333/.486 slash line in 35 at-bats this season.
The super-utility man got off to a slow start at the dish, but he managed to turn things around thanks in part to a couple of modest hitting streaks comprised primarily of pinch-hitting appearances. Amarista still profiles as more of a glove-first player who will make most of his appearances as a defensive replacement, but his success over the past few weeks could help him pick up more plate appearances moving forward, especially if an injury befalls one of the Rockies' regulars.

The super utility man was brought in over the offseason to act as a capable reserve player, but so far he's failed to capitalize on his limited opportunities. Amarista is better known for his glove than his bat, but unless he can show any semblance of life at the dish, he'll likely be relegated to merely serving as a defensive replacement for many of his appearances.
