Phillies' Jimmy Paredes: Outrighted to Triple-A on Friday
Paredes was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.
After being claimed off waivers by Philadelphia, Paredes could only muster a .222 batting average over 150 plate appearances, leaving the Phillies no choice but to cast him off the 40-man roster as they develop their younger alternatives. Paredes does have a history of solid contributions as a designated hitter and has some defensive versatility, so there's a decent chance that he could find his way back to the majors in some capacity in 2017.

Phillies' Jimmy Paredes: Gets third straight start Sunday
Paredes will start in left field and bat second in the order Sunday against the Mets.
With Roman Quinn (oblique) shut down for the final few games of the season, Paredes has picked up three starts in a row in left field. Unfortunately, it's unlikely to mean much for his long-term outlook with Philadelphia. Paredes got the start in left field Sunday and has now started two of the Phillies' last four games. He may have earned a little more playing time with Sunday's performance, but is still going to be in a timeshare with Peter Bourjos, Aaron Altherr and Tyler Goeddel in the corner-outfield spots. Altherr and Bourjos are expected to see the majority of the playing time.

Phillies' Jimmy Paredes: Remains on roster
The Phillies optioned Cody Asche to Triple-A, meaning Paredes spot on the roster is safe for now, Matt Gelb of the Philly Inquirer reports.
Paredes is struggling in his short stint this year with the Phillies, hitting just .200 with three home runs and nine RBI in 95 at-bats. If Asche begins to hit the ball better at Triple-A, he may come back to Philadelphia and take Paredes spot on the roster.

Phillies' Jimmy Paredes: Starts in right field for third time in four games
Paredes will draw the start in right field and bat fifth in the order Sunday against the Brewers.
Since acquiring Paredes on June 1, the Phillies have wasted no time deploying the switch-hitting utility player in their lineup. While Paredes offers the ability to play the infield, his easiest avenue to playing time is in the corner outfield, where the Phillies have struggled to get production all season. He's only gone 2-for-8 and has struck out five times in his previous two starts, but Paredes should have an extended opportunity to showcase his talents. Tyler Goeddel will continue to lose out on at-bats while Paredes sees regular action.

Phillies' Jimmy Paredes: Path to playing time unclear
Manager Pete Mackanin said Paredes could receive more playing time than Emmanuel Burris, the player he replaced on the Phillies' active roster, Stephen Gross of the Allentown Morning Call reports.
Burriss was restricted to a pinch hitting role and had just 36 plate appearances in 27 games. That is a low bar for Paredes to clear. He can play in the outfield in addition to second and third base. His clearest path to playing time may be at second base if Cesar Hernandez continues his mediocre performance. For now, it seems Paredes will be limited to pinch hitting and occasional spot starts.
