Paredes signed a one-year, $800,000 contract to play for the Doosan Bears in South Korea, the Yonhap New Agency reports.
Paredes played in Japan last season for the Chiba Lotte Marines, but had just a .634 OPS. At age 29 next season, it doesn't look like he'll play in MLB again.

Paredes signed a one-year deal worth $1.2 million with the Chiba Lotte Marines, the Japan Times reports.
Paredes hit .222/.253/.367 with five home runs in 158 at-bats between the Blue Jays and the Phillies this past season. At age 28 next season, it's possible he could return to MLB if he does well in Japan.

After being claimed off waivers by Philadelphia, Paredes could only muster a .222 batting average over 150 plate appearances, leaving the Phillies no choice but to cast him off the 40-man roster as they develop their younger alternatives. Paredes does have a history of solid contributions as a designated hitter and has some defensive versatility, so there's a decent chance that he could find his way back to the majors in some capacity in 2017.

Since acquiring Paredes on June 1, the Phillies have wasted no time deploying the switch-hitting utility player in their lineup. While Paredes offers the ability to play the infield, his easiest avenue to playing time is in the corner outfield, where the Phillies have struggled to get production all season. He's only gone 2-for-8 and has struck out five times in his previous two starts, but Paredes should have an extended opportunity to showcase his talents. Tyler Goeddel will continue to lose out on at-bats while Paredes sees regular action.

Manager Pete Mackanin said Paredes could receive more playing time than Emmanuel Burris, the player he replaced on the Phillies' active roster, Stephen Gross of the Allentown Morning Call reports.
Burriss was restricted to a pinch hitting role and had just 36 plate appearances in 27 games. That is a low bar for Paredes to clear. He can play in the outfield in addition to second and third base. His clearest path to playing time may be at second base if Cesar Hernandez continues his mediocre performance. For now, it seems Paredes will be limited to pinch hitting and occasional spot starts.

Paredes was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays earlier this week. The Phillies can use more offense and could give Paredes a chance to earn playing time at second base or in the outfield.
