Schimpf was traded twice this offseason before again being dealt to the Angels on March 31, and was at Triple-A Salt Lake for all but five games in 2018. The 30-year-old has struggled so far this season with a .178/.288/.355 slash line with only three home runs in 107 at-bats, but could still garner interest on a minor-league contract elsewhere.

Angels' Ryan Schimpf: Sent back to minors
Schimpf was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
Schimpf will head back to the minors in order to open up a roster spot for Thursday's starter, Jaime Barria. The 30-year-old was with the Angels for just one game and didn't register an at-bat, though he entered Wednesday's game as a defensive replacement. He'll continue to serve as organizational depth in the minors.

Angels' Ryan Schimpf: Recalled from Triple-A
Schimpf was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Schimpf will take the roster spot of Nick Tropeano (shoulder), who was sent to the disabled list in a corresponding move. It could be a short stay with the big-league club for Schimpf, however, as the Angels will need to clear a roster spot prior to Thursday's game for Jaime Barria, who is scheduled to start. The 30-year-old Schimpf, who is 1-for-5 with a homer and a pair of walks in four major-league appearances this season, will provide a left-handed bat off the bench during his time with the Angels.

Angels' Ryan Schimpf: Optioned to Triple-A
Schimpf was sent to Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Thursday's contest, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
Schimpf will head back down to Salt Lake after joining the big-league club last weekend. He wound up appearing in four games, going 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI during his brief opportunity. In a corresponding move, the Angels activated Ian Kinsler (groin) from the disabled list.

Schimpf (undisclosed) was replaced Monday night against the Rangers because of a coaching decision, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Schimpf was pulled from the game due to the fact that he's not an experienced left fielder and the game was already in hand. This is good news for the Angels, as it means he'll be available for Tuesday's matchup against Texas.

Angels' Ryan Schimpf: Exits Monday's game early
Schimpf (undisclosed) was pulled from Monday's game against the Rangers in the fourth inning, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
It's unclear if Schimpf's departure was injury related, although he may have hurt himself while trying to avoid a tag at first base in the top of the fourth frame. Chris Young entered the game after Schimpf was pulled from action. More details regarding his status should be available soon.

Angels' Ryan Schimpf: Clubs homer in start
Schimpf started at third base and went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Athletics.
The slugging infielder also struck out, putting his "three true outcomes" skill set on full display in his first start of the season. Schimpf smacked 34 homers in 527 plate appearances over the last two years with the Padres, so his power is as real as it comes. He also batted .163 over that span, highlighting the major flaw that holds him back from being a viable everyday player. Ian Kinsler (groin) is expected back soon, which could result in Schimpf returning to Triple-A Salt Lake. Even if the 29-year-old sticks around, he would be used in backup role, limiting his fantasy value.

The Angels recalled Schimpf from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
Schimpf was traded from the Braves to the Angels in late March and didn't have to wait long to see a big-league opportunity. The 29-year-old should serve as a depth infield option for Los Angeles with Ian Kinsler (groin) on the disabled list for at least a few more days.

Schimpf was stuck as a depth infielder in Atlanta, and despite the demotion, he may have a chance to break into a modicum of playing time while Ian Kinsler (groin) spends time on the disabled list. Even if he's recalled, such a role probably wouldn't last long enough for the strikeout- and flyball-inclined Schimpf to earn much fantasy interest outside of AL-only leagues.

Schimpf was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.
Schimpf was dealt to the Braves earlier this month after being designated for assignment by the Rays. He made eight spring training appearances with his new club over the past two weeks but went 0-for-16 with 11 strikeouts. He'll begin the season in the minor leagues and will likely require an injury at the major-league level to work his way back up to the bigs in the early going.

Schimpf has been traded to Atlanta for a player to be named later or cash considerations Monday.
Schimpf had been designated for assignment by the Rays to make room for Carlos Gomez. The 29-year-old infielder hit just .158/.284/.424 in 197 plate appearances for the Padres last season, though he did manage to slug 14 home runs. His extreme flyball approach could make him a cheap power source if given regular playing time, but it comes with a brutal batting average (.195 in 527 career plate appearances) which all but kills his fantasy value in most formats and makes regular at-bats unlikely.

Schimpf was designated for assignment by the Rays on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The Rays needed to clear a roster spot for the addition of Carlos Gomez, and Schimpf was the corresponding casualty. The 29-year-old will now look to latch on elsewhere as infield depth. Schimpf offers some solid pop, as evidenced by his 34 homers across 142 major-league games over the past two seasons, but that comes with an unsightly .195 average and 33.2 percent strikeout rate.

Rays' Ryan Schimpf: Traded to Tampa Bay
Schimpf was traded to the Rays in exchange for Deion Tansel on Tuesday, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.
Sending Schimpf to Tampa clears a spot on the Padres' 40-man roster for Chase Headley, whom San Diego acquired in a separate trade earlier Tuesday. Schimpf started the 2017 campaign with the big club but was sent to Triple-A El Paso in June after hitting just .158 (26-for-154) with a 35.5 percent strikeout rate. He did hit 14 homers over that stretch, and another 20 in 89 games in 2016, so the pop is there if he's able to correct his approach. While he hit just .202/.311/.475 with El Paso after being demoted last season, Schimpf posted a .355/.432/.729 at that level in 2016. He should serve as infield depth next season, though there's a chance he competes for a starting job.

Padres' Ryan Schimpf: Sent to minors
Schimpf was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday, Dennis Lin of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Although Schimpf has 14 homers this season, he's batting just .158 (26-for-165) and is striking out 35.5 percent of the time, so the Padres decided to send him down to the minors to work on his approach. He still has some serious pop, so he could prove to be serviceable for the Padres down the road if he's able to adjust his swing in order to make more contact. Jose Valdez was recalled in a corresponding roster move, while Cory Spangenberg figures to see the bulk of playing time at third base moving forward.

Padres' Ryan Schimpf: Sitting against lefty Thursday
Schimpf is not in the Padres' lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks, Jack Magruder of FanRagSports.com reports.
The hacking but powerful second baseman will park on the pine as Patrick Corbin toes the rubber for Arizona. Schimpf fails to make contact against any pitcher, though, and his OPS is actually slightly higher against lefties (.732) than righties (.706), albeit over a smaller sample size of 50 plate appearances. Jose Pirela will take his spot at second base and lead off.
