Clint Robinson: Ends playing career
Robinson has been serving as a professional scout in the Marlins organization this season, effectively spelling an end to his playing career, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
Robinson, who last appeared in the majors in 2016, spent the 2017 campaign exclusively at Triple-A Syracuse in the Nationals organization, batting .242/.315/.424 in 495 plate appearances. Since the 33-year-old likely would have been destined for another year in the minors had he signed with a team this winter, he decided to transition to his post-playing career. Robinson appeared in parts of four seasons in the big leagues with the Royals, Dodgers and Nationals, hitting .257 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI in 243 games.

Nationals' Clint Robinson: Officially heads to minors
Robinson cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Syracuse, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.
The 32-year-old wasn't needed on the major-league roster after Adam Lind was added to the fray, and after no team jumped at the chance to sign Robinson off waivers he will return to the minors. He does possess a bit of power as well as some positional versatility, so he could climb back to the nation's capital if he tears up Triple-A.

Nationals' Clint Robinson: Placed on waivers
Robinson was placed on waivers by the Nationals on Tuesday, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.
Robinson was battling for the backup role at first base, but that job will now go to recent signee Adam Lind, while this also clears the way for Wilmer Difo and Michael Taylor to fight for a final bench spot. Teams will now have 72 hours to claim the 32-year-old, and if not, he'll have the option to head to Triple-A Syracuse if he wants.

Nationals' Clint Robinson: Roster spot uncertain
Robinson's spot on the major league roster is up in the air after the Nationals signed Adam Lind on Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
After a down year, Robinson seemed to still have the inside track to a big league job given the lack of internal options to back up Ryan Zimmerman at first base. However, the 31-year-old's spot is in jeopardy after Lind joined the fray, as he does almost everything Robinson does better. Robinson will have to impress during spring training if he wants to stick around in the nation's capital, otherwise he seems destined for an organizational depth role in 2017.

Nationals' Clint Robinson: Bench spot secure heading into 2017
Robinson will head into 2017 penciled into a spot on the Nationals' 25-man roster.
His numbers took a big step backwards last season, but the Nats still like Robinson as a source of left-handed power off the bench and at first base when Ryan Zimmerman is unavailable. That role doesn't provide him with a lot of fantasy value, but unless a prospect like Matt Skole has a big spring, there aren't any internal options to pressure Robinson for his spot.

Nationals' Clint Robinson: Gets rare start Tuesday
Robinson is in the lineup Tuesday, batting eighth as the Nationals' DH.
Manager Dusty Baker will take advantage of playing in an AL park on Tuesday by having both Ryan Zimmerman and Robinson in the lineup. Robinson, who has only started six games in August, is slashing .235/.304/.362 across 149 at-bats on the season. That said, he'll provide a left-handed bat with some power against Baltimore righty Kevin Gausman on Tuesday.

Nationals' Clint Robinson: Sits second straight
Robinson is out of the lineup for the second straight game Thursday against the Dodgers, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.
After starting four straight games at first base, and seven of eight overall after Ryan Zimmerman (ribs) landed on the DL, Robinson will take a seat for the second day in a row. The 31-year-old is losing playing time to the young Trea Turner, who starts at the keystone and effectively moves Daniel Murphy over to Robinson's spot at first. Robinson's bat hasn't done much to help his case, as he's slashing .194/.250/.389 since July 1.

Nationals' Clint Robinson: Has multi-hit effort in Friday victory
Robinson went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run in Friday's 5-1 victory over the Pirates.
He answered a Jody Mercer RBI single in the top of the fifth with one of his own in the home half of the frame that plated Wilson Ramos and knotted the score at 1-1. The 31-year-old Robinson has now hit safely in three of the last four games, along with two homers and five RBI over that span.

Robinson is not in the lineup for Friday's matchup with Pittsburgh, William Ladson of MLB.com reports.
Robinson will get the first game after the All-Star break off with Daniel Murphy making the start at first base and batting third. Robinson saw limited action in the first half, making only 93 at-bats despite not encountering any injuries. The 31-year-old will look to improve his peripherals during the second half as he's managed a dismal .215/.278/.419 slash line through 53 games played this season.

Robinson got the start at first base Friday and went 1-for-3 with a two-run shot, his fifth home run of the season, in a 3-1 win over the Mets.
With Ryan Zimmerman (ribs) landing on the DL, Robinson should see most of the action at first, although manager Dusty Baker could elect to slide Daniel Murphy to first as well in order to get Trea Turner into the lineup at second base. Robinson's been heating up though, homering in consecutive games and launching three shots in his last 21 at-bats, so Baker may just elect to stick with the veteran until Zimmerman's ready to return.

Robinson got the start at first base Sunday and went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in a 3-2 win over the Brewers.
The eighth-inning shot, his third home run of the season, proved to be crucial after Milwaukee scored single runs in the eighth and ninth. Robinson's actually done well with his limited playing time in June, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with five RBI, but Nats manager Dusty Baker doesn't seem inclined to give Ryan Zimmerman too many days off even as he works through yet another slump.

Nationals' Clint Robinson: Breaks out with three-hit game Saturday
Robinson went 3-for-4 and scored a run in Saturday's 8-0 victory over the Phillies.
The 31-year-old put together his first three-hit outing of the season and first multi-hit effort since May 4. Robinson had come into Saturday with only one hit in his first nine at-bats of June, so the production was certainly a welcome sight. It brought the veteran's season line to .230/.300/.377.

Robinson got a start at first base Saturday and went 0-for-3 in a loss to the Reds.
He got the nod with Ryan Zimmerman on paternity leave, but Robinson's .192/.283/.346 slash line in 52 at-bats on the season doesn't exactly warrant more action, or much fantasy attention when he does get playing time. Expect him to head back to the bench Sunday, even though Zimmerman isn't slated to return until next week.

Getting the start at first base Sunday, Robinson went 1-for-4 with a two-run shot off Carlos Martinez, his first home run of the season.
He's still hitting a miserable .087/.160/.217 through 23 at-bats on the season, but Robinson picked a good time to show signs of life at the plate with the Nats headed to Kansas City for an interleague series beginning Monday and some DH at-bats up for grabs.

Robinson struck out as a pinch hitter during Sunday's extra-inning win over the Twins.
Robinson is just 1-for-17 with two walks to go along with six strikeouts this season. After hitting .272 over 126 games last season, Robinson finds himself backing up Ryan Zimmerman at first base this year for a red-hot Nationals club. The 31-year-old should see starts here and there, but he needs to starts producing at the plate.
