O'Conner was suspended 50 games after testing positive for a drug of abuse, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
This is the second time O'Conner has tested positive for a drug of abuse. The catcher is a free agent after spending time with the Giants' organization during spring training, so his suspension will begin once he's signed by another team.

Giants' Justin O'Conner: Time in major-league camp ends
O'Conner was sent to minor-league camp Monday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
O'Conner went 3-for-10 (.300) and drew two walks over 10 Cactus League games for the Giants this spring. It remains to be seen where O'Conner will open the year, but his fantasy value is minimal with Buster Posey and Nick Hundley behind the dish for the big club.

Giants' Justin O'Conner: Inks NRI deal with Giants
O'Conner signed a minor-league contract with the Giants which includes an invitation to spring training, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
With Buster Posey and Nick Hundley set to return as the Giants' catching duo, O'Conner should spend 2018 on the farm as organizational catching depth. The 25-year-old split time with Triple-A Durham and Double-A Montgomery in 2017, hitting a .227/.288/.372 in a combined 85 games at both stops.

Rays' Justin O'Conner: Promoted to Triple-A
O'Conner was promoted to Triple-A Durham last Sunday and is 4-for-9 with a home run and three RBI in three games with the Bulls.
The 2010 first-round pick has battled a multitude of injuries throughout his extensive minor-league career, and he's now just a step away from the majors for the first time. O'Conner's career .234/.286/.393 line is rather uninspired, but he's flashed some decent pop with 205 extra-base hits (136 doubles, seven triples and 62 home runs) in 551 games. However, he hasn't launched double-digit round trippers in a campaign since 2014 and has been limited to 86 games over the last two seasons.

Rays' Justin O'Conner: Healthy, assigned to Double-A
O'Conner (back) is healthy and was assigned to Double-A Montgomery on Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.
A back injury limited him to 20 games last season, so he will head back to Double-A, where he has 136 games under his belt, to knock the rust off before heading to Triple-A Durham. O'Conner has an elite arm behind the dish and some raw power, but he has hardly ever hit in the minors, and profiles at best as a glove-first catcher in the big leagues.

Rays' Justin O'Conner: Sent outright to Triple-A
O'Conner (back) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
O'Conner was DFA'd earlier in the month after the Rays signed Wilson Ramos, and given his lack of movement through the Rays organization, no team bit on his services. The 24-year-old is also recovering from some back surgeries and potentially could miss most if not all of the 2017 season, so that added wrinkle may have played a part in all of this as well. Regardless, he'll continue to rehab his back as the offseason rolls along with the hope of returning at the tail-end of the upcoming year.

O'Conner was DFA'd by the Rays on Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
O'Conner missed nearly all of last season due to a strained back, and the 24-year-old, first-round pick (2010) is yet to progress past the Double-A level. Monday's designation removes O'Conner from the 40-man roster, freeing up a spot for the newly acquired Wilson Ramos.

Rays' Justin O'Conner: Returns to action with GCL Rays
O'Conner, who's been sidelined the entire season with a back strain, returned to action with the GCL Rays on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The 2010 first-round pick is officially on a rehab assignment, with the goal of eventually getting back to Double-A Montgomery after several appearances. O'Conner has gone 1-for-6 over his first two games, with the one hit coming on a solo homer that he blasted against the GCL Twins on Wednesday. The 24-year-old has yet to ascend beyond the Double-A level in five-plus minor league campaigns, slashing .232/.281/.392 with 54 homers and 246 RBI over 470 games.
