Elian Herrera: Retires to become coach
Herrera retired from baseball to become a coach for High-A Rancho Cucamonga in the Dodgers' system Wednesday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Herrera spent parts of four years in the big leagues, posting a .253/.306/.360 slash line in 223 games for the Dodgers and Brewers. He'd been out of affiliated baseball since 2016, spending two years in Japan and another in Mexico.

Dodgers' Elian Herrera: Continues slow spring in season opener
Herrera went 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Thursday's season opener with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The 31-year-old third baseman's Opening Day struggles aren't much of a surprise considering his spring training performance. He went 10-for-51 with nine runs scored, four RBI and a 4:9 BB:K rate, and found himself in Triple-A to start the season because of it. That said, it is not outside the realm of possibility for him to make his way to the majors at some point this season if his performance improves.

Dodgers' Elian Herrera: Signs minor league contract with Dodgers
Herrera signed a minor-league deal with the Dodgers that includes an invite to spring training, the Los Angeles Daily News' J.P. Hoornstra reports.
He originally signed with the Dodgers back in 2003 when he left the Dominican Republic, so it is a homecoming of sorts for Herrera. The 30-year-old spent the last two years playing for the Brewers, but it will be a lot tougher for him to find playing time with the big league club in Los Angeles.

Elian Herrera: Non-tendered by Brewers
Herrera was not tendered a contract by the Brewers.
Aramis Ramirez's departure opened up regular playing time for Herrera in the second half, but the 30-year-old underwhelmed for the most part before a knee injury ended his season in mid-September. Look for him to at least attend spring training with another club, assuming the knee is back close to 100 percent by then.
