Pirates' Luis Heredia: Assigned to Double-A Altoona
Heredia was assigned to Double-A Altoona on Friday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Heredia has yet to pitch so far in 2017. Last season with High-A Bradenton, Heredia posted a 3.64 ERA in 54.1 innings of work. Considering that Double-A is the highest level he has ever played at, it will likely be a bit of a challenge at first for the 22-year-old right-hander.

Pirates' Luis Heredia: Exposed to Rule 5 draft
The Pirates chose not to protect Heredia from the Rule 5 draft.
The 21-year-old signed for $2.6 million as a 17-year-old out of Mexico in 2010. He's struggled with his weight and registered a 5.44 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 86 innings for High-A Bradenton in 2015. At 21, Heredia still has a chance to turn his career around but it might not be with Pittsburgh.
