Mets' Matt Purke: Reassigned to minors camp
The Mets reassigned Purke to their minor-league camp Tuesday.
Purke had been auditioning for a relief role with the Mets in spring training but was likely removed from consideration after starting candidates Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman shifted to the bullpen. It's likely that Purke will report to Triple-A Las Vegas after spending the entire 2017 campaign in the International League as a member of the White Sox organization.

Purke has been sent home with the flu and will be back at spring camp once he's fully recovered, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
This doesn't appear to be too much cause for concern but there will be an update on the situation if Purke suffers any sort of setback. The left-hander spent last season at the Triple-A level within the White Sox's organization and is looking to make an impression at the Mets' spring camp.

Mets' Matt Purke: Signs with Mets
Purke signed a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training with the Mets on Friday.
Purke appeared in 48 games with Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox's system last season, posting a 3.84 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 65.2 relief innings. The 27-year-old has only pitched in 12 career big-league games -- all coming in 2016 -- but will look to find a home with the Mets this spring.

White Sox's Matt Purke: Clears waivers Wednesday
Purke cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Purke was designated for assignment last week, but after no team decided to swipe him off the White Sox's hands, he'll head to the minors to continue being an organizational depth piece. The left-hander found some success at Triple-A following a switch to being a reliever, although that didn't translate to the majors, as he posted a 5.50 ERA in 18 innings out of the big-league bullpen.

Purke didn't record an out in his appearance Wednesday, allowing a walk and a hit before being pulled. He's struggled with walks (12 in 18 innings) and owns a 6.00 ERA after both of his baserunners came around to score. The team has yet to announce his replacement on the 25-man roster, but that news should come prior to Thursday's series finale against the Twins.

Purke has pitched 10 innings since his contract was purchased by the White Sox on May 13, allowing four earned runs in that time.
As expected, Purke has pitched in low-leverage situations, only making appearances in games when the White Sox were losing by three or more runs. He's been a relatively solid option, as all four runs came in one inning of action, leaving him with nine shutout innings for the season.
