Tyler Collins: Released by Royals
Collins was released by the Royals on Friday, Rustin Dodd of The Athletic Kansas City reports.
Collins was released from his minor-league deal after hitting .132/.242/.132 through his first 18 games for Triple-A Omaha. The 27-year-old has hit .235/.299/.380 in 183 career major-league games.

Royals' Tyler Collins: Making spring debut
Collins (ribs) is starting in right field and batting fifth Monday against the Giants.
An intercostal issue kept Collins sidelined for the final two weeks of the 2017 season, but he's back at full health after taking the offseason to rest and recover. The 27-year-old is vying for an Opening Day role as a reserve outfielder for his new team, though he could spend the year as organizational depth given his unremarkable .235/.299/.380 career slash line over parts of four major-league seasons.

Royals' Tyler Collins: Agrees to minor-league deal with Royals
Collins (ribs) signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Collins split time between Triple-A Toledo and Detroit last season, slashing a respectable .288/.358/.462 for the Mud Hens but struggling to a .193/.278/.333 line with the Tigers. The 27-year-old has seen major-league action with the Tigers in each of the previous four seasons, but his lackluster .235/.299/.380 slash line over that stretch will likely limit him to an organizational depth role in 2018.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Outrighted off 40-man
Collins (ribs) cleared waivers and was outrighted off the Tigers' 40-man roster.
Collins saw regular playing time in the outfield to start the season in place of the injured J.D. Martinez, but he was sent back to the minors after hitting just .200/.288/.338 in 40 games. He earned a September promotion but failed to improve at the plate, ending his season with a .193/.278/.333 line in 169 plate appearances for the big club. Seeing as he passed through waivers unclaimed during the 2017 season, he'll likely settle for a minor-league deal for next year.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Unavailable Tuesday

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Dealing with intercostal issue
Collins is day-to-day with an intercostal injury, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Since returning to the majors from Triple-A Toledo on Sept. 11, Collins has hit .150 with a .517 OPS over nine games. He hadn't been seeing much regular playing time and was primarily providing depth in the outfield.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Headed to majors
Collins' contract was purchased from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
As planned, Collins is set to rejoin the big club Monday. Collins started the season in the majors and played 40 games for the Tigers, during which he hit just .200 with a .626 OPS. He's shown improvement with Toledo, where he slashed .288/.358/.462 over 74 games. In a corresponding move, the Tigers released Arcenio Leon.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Will rejoin big club Monday
Collins will be recalled by the Tigers on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
The outfielder will provide depth while Mikie Mahtook (groin) and Alex Presley (undisclosed) try to rest nagging injuries. Collins was designated for assignment in May but stayed with the organization after he cleared waivers. He slashed a .288/.358/.462 line with nine homers and 11 stolen bases in 296 plate appearances for Triple-A Toledo, but he's 27 and it was his fourth stint there, so it's nothing to get excited about. Maybe he can scrape together a few starts per week as the Tigers limp to the finish line of a non-playoff season.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Clears waivers, stays with organization
Collins cleared waivers Sunday and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
The Tigers couldn't find any takers for Collins on the trade market or via waivers after he was designated for assignment a week ago, so he'll stick around with the organization as a depth piece in the outfield. Now that Collins is no longer on the 40-man roster, however, his path to returning to the big leagues is a more arduous one.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Designated for assignment
Collins was designated for assignment Sunday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Collins got off to a solid start in the first month of the season to emerge as an everyday option for the Tigers, but he's regressed badly in May, slashing .108/.237/.292. The 26-year-old didn't have any remaining minor-league options, so the Tigers will have to drop him from the 40-man roster in order to open up a spot for Alex Presley, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. If Collins goes unclaimed off waivers, he'll likely remain in the organization and report to Toledo.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Heads to bench Tuesday
Collins is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Astros.
Collins is batting just .160 over the past 30 games, so he'll head to the bench for the first time since May 14. Mikie Mahtook will pick up a start in center field to replace him.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Smashes two homers in win over O's
Collins went 3-for-4 with a double, two homers and four RBI in Wednesday's win over the Orioles.
This massive game came pretty much out of nowhere, as Collins had just a .216/.283/.309 line with two homers coming into Wednesday. Such are the generously distributed benefits of hitters who get to face Baltimore's ultra-hittable Ubaldo Jimenez, although Collins had by far the best day of any Tiger. This could win him a bit more playing time, but it's not evident to this point that Collins is well equipped to take advantage of that.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Back in lineup Wednesday
Collins will start in center field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
Collins is making his first start since Saturday, as he did not play on Sunday and came off the bench in Detroit's 13-inning loss on Tuesday. With just a .216/.283/.309 slash line, Collins may continue to get only occasional starts unless he starts to hit a bit more.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Sits for second straight contest
Collins is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Orioles.
This marks the second consecutive game that Collins will not start, which may be a reflection of the poor .226 batting average he's put together with regular playing time this season. To fill his spot Tuesday, Mikie Mahtook will take over in center field.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Sitting out Sunday
Collins is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels.
The Tigers reclaimed some health in the outfield in returning J.D. Martinez from the disabled list earlier this weekend, so it's expected that Collins will see most of his action in center field going forward. However, since Collins has failed to record a hit in his last eight games, it appears he may have to fight with Andrew Romine for at-bats. Romine is starting in center Sunday for the fourth time in six games.

Collins is hitless in his last four games, so he'll take a seat for the second straight game as Andrew Romine gets the start in center field.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Absent from Sunday's lineup
Colliins is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics.
Collins has started six straight games in center field but will give way to Andrew Romine for the afternoon contest. He's now hitless in four straight games to drop his season batting average over 30 points to .256. He'll need to turn things around at the plate soon, or risk losing playing time with activations for JaCoby Jones (face) and J.D. Martinez (foot) both potentially in the near future.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Smacks three-run homer against Tribe
Collins went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored during Monday's win over Cleveland.
Currently riding a nice run at the dish -- 10-for-21 with six runs and six RBI -- over his past six games, Collins has taken advantage of his recent promotion to the two-hole. However, with Miguel Cabrera (groin) eligible to return from the disabled list Tuesday, Collins will likely be demoted down the lineup. Still, it isn't out of the question that the 26-year-old outfielder continues to provide serviceable fantasy results. He's already well on his way to a career-best campaign.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Out of lineup Saturday
Collins is not in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox.
With the White Sox sending southpaw Derek Holland to the mound, Collins will take a seat in favor of Andrew Romine in center field. Collins will look to stay hot when he returns to the lineup, as he is 7-for-12 with three RBI and four runs in his last three games played.

Tigers' Tyler Collins: Reaches base four times against Mariners
Collins went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and a run during Thursday's loss to Seattle.
The 26-year-old outfielder has had a fleeting opportunity to hit second in the lineup, and he's taken advantage of it the past two games with a 6-for-8 run at the dish. Collins has never shown target-worthy potential at any stop in his professional career, so once Detroit returns to health, and he's bumped down the batting order, his fantasy value will take a hit.
