Padres' Andre Rienzo: Heading to San Diego on minor league contract
Rienzo signed a minor league deal with the Padres on Tuesday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
He hasn't had much success at the major league level (5.90 career ERA), but the right-hander did manage to post a strong 2.51 ERA and 9.3 K/9 with the Marlins Triple-A affiliate last season. Rienzo has a decent chance of landing a spot on the major league roster at some point during the 2017 season due to the lefty-heavy nature of the Padres bullpen, although he likely won't be trusted in a fantasy-relevant role given his past numbers.

Marlins' Andre Rienzo: Outrighted to Triple-A
Rienzo was outrighted to Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday.
While he was designated for assignment a week ago, Rienzo still receives an invite to spring training this year. He had a 3.01 ERA at Triple-A last year, working primarily as a starter, but struggled in a bullpen role for Miami, posting a 5.95 ERA in 19.2 innings. His destiny in the big leagues will need to be as a reliever or a swing man, so even if he makes the roster out of camp or receives a callup early in 2016, his fantasy value will be quite limited.

Marlins' Andre Rienzo: Designated for assignment
Rienzo was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Wednesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Rienzo posted decent numbers at Triple-A last season, but can't seem to find his footing at the major league level, finishing 2015 with a 5.95 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 19.2 innings with the Marlins. With the team officially adding Edwin Jackson to bullpen, Rienzo appears to be the odd man out, and would be slated to begin the season in the minors if he passes through waivers unclaimed.
