  • Pirates' Curtis Partch: Designated for assignment

The Pirates designated Partch for assignment Sunday, MLB.com reports.

A 40-man roster spot was needed for starting pitcher Chad Kuhl, who is set to take the mound Sunday against the Dodgers, so Partch ended up being the casualty due to his status as a 29-year-old reliever with only a handful of MLB appearances on his resume. Partch has been a standout at Triple-A Indianapolis this season, sporting a 1.29 ERA and 0.97 WHIP while striking out 37 batters in 35 innings, which might be enough to entice another organization to grab him off waivers.
