Edgar Olmos: To pitch in Japan
Olmos has agreed to pitch with Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan for the 2018 season, the team's official site reports.
He spent 2017 notching a 2.68 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 87.1 innings with the Red Sox's Triple-A affiliate, but hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2015.

Red Sox's Edgar Olmos: Reassigned to minor-league camp
Olmos was reassigned to minor-league camp Wednesday, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
Olmos was under consideration for one of the final available spots in the Red Sox's bullpen after recording a 1.54 ERA over 11.2 spring innings, but his status as a non-roster invitee was always going to make it difficult for him to crack the Opening Day roster. The 27-year-old is expected to open the season at the Triple-A level, where he posted a 2.88 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 68.2 innings with Norfolk as a member of the Orioles organization in 2016.

Red Sox's Edgar Olmos: Has shot for spot in bullpen
Olmos (hamstring) was specifically mentioned by Red Sox manager John Farell as a candidate for the second lefty spot in the bullpen, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports.
Olmos has kicked around in a few organizations since 2008 but feels he reinvented himself last season when he made the curveball his primary pitch instead of the more conventional fastball. His strikeout rate spiked to 10.0 K/9 last year at Triple-A Norfolk, and he's doing more of the same in Boston's camp. The 26-year-old minor league free agent has struck out 11 hitters and walked just two while posting a 1.17 ERA over 7.2 innings spanning six spring appearances. He's making a case for the second lefty spot in the bullpen, competing against Fernando Abad and Robby Scott.

Red Sox's Edgar Olmos: Dealing with hamstring strain
Olmos is dealing with a hamstring strain and will be reevaluated Tuesday, Michael Silverman of MLB.com reports.
The southpaw has been impressive in six games with the Red Sox this spring, allowing just one run across 7.2 innings while striking out 11 and walking two. Consider the 26-year-old day-to-day for the time being. He's been doing a good job staking his claim to a spot in the crowded Boston bullpen, but this setback will likely see him start the year with Triple-A Norfolk.

Red Sox's Edgar Olmos: Inks NRI deal with Red Sox
Olmos signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
Olmos nearly broke camp with the Orioles last season, but he instead went on to post a strong 2.88 ERA and 10.0 K/9 as a member of Triple-A Norfolk's bullpen. The Red Sox seem to have a fairly set bullpen already, but a strong spring showing could vault the left-hander into a more prominent position in the organization depending on the performance of Boston's other southpaws.

Orioles' Edgar Olmos: Should be in bullpen on Opening Day
Olmos was not among Baltimore's roster cuts Friday and it appears he has made the Opening Day roster.
The Orioles have a number of pitchers who have made the Opening Day roster with swing man backgrounds and Olmos fits right into that mold. While Olmos will be limited to a bullpen role, it remains to be seen whether he might be a situational pitcher or a long reliever. Olmos allowed two runs in two innings with the Orioles after coming over mid-spring from the Cubs. Olmos will have to continue to fight for his roster spot with Brian Matusz figuring to return about a week or so into the season.

Cubs' Edgar Olmos: Dealt to Orioles for PTBNL
Olmos was traded to the Orioles on Thursday for a player to be named later, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Olmos has bounced around a fair bit this offseason, being claimed and designated for assignment by both the Orioles and the Cubs before ultimately landing back in Baltimore in a minor trade Thursday. The 25-year-old left-hander allowed three earned runs in 3.1 innings of work with the Cubs this spring before being reassigned to minor league camp. Olmos will likely be a depth option in the bullpen at either Double or Triple-A this season.

To clear room on the roster for Olmos, the Cubs released the recently acquired Brendan Ryan on Wednesday. Olmos has bounced around several organizations this offseason, including the Mariners, Cubs, Orioles, and now the Cubs once again. He'll be one of many pitchers vying for a spot in the Cubs' bullpen in spring training.

Olmos was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Thursday, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports.
The Orioles will mark Olmos' third organization in December after the tall lefty was DFA'd by the Mariners and briefly claimed by the Cubs. Olmos had trouble in his two major league starts in 2015, but fared slightly better working out of the bullpen. If he can dial in his command a bit (.5 K:BB rate in 14 innings in 2015), he could find himself in a lefty specialist role in the Baltimore bullpen.
