Giants' Carlos Moncrief: Designated for assignment
Moncrief was designated for assignment by the Giants, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The Giants decided reliever Roberto Gomez was more deserving of a roster spot, so they made the swap ahead of Tuesday's game. Moncrief went 8-for-38 with one extra-base hit during his time with the Giants and he's hit just .257/.331/.409 in parts of three seasons at Triple-A.

Giants' Carlos Moncrief: Records first major-league hit
Moncrief got the start in right field Monday, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in an 8-5 loss to the Athletics.
The 28-year-old rookie received his first start in the majors and responded with his first hit and RBI of his career. He was filling in for Hunter Pence (rest) on Monday, so it is unclear if the Giants plan to give him more looks in the outfield going forward, or if he will continue to be used primarily off the bench. Moncrief earned his promotion by batting .287 with Triple-A Sacramento this season, but with just two home runs and four steals in 190 minor-league plate appearances, he doesn't project as a useful fantasy option even if he were to get an extended look at some point this season.

Giants' Carlos Moncrief: Called up for big-league debut
Moncrief's contract was purchased from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.
Formerly a pitcher in the Indians organization, Moncrief reinvented himself as an outfielder and has found some success in the minors this season (.770 OPS in 71 games). With the Giants outfield depleted by injuries, he'll head to the big leagues to offer some depth to the team, although it's unlikely that he'll get close to regular playing time given that the current starters at each spot have been playing well.
