Phillies' Danny Ortiz: Reassigned to minors
The Phillies reassigned Ortiz to their minor-league camp Wednesday.
With slugger Rhys Hoskins set to join an already crowded outfield this season, there was only one spot up for grabs at the position for the Opening Day roster. Since the likes of Roman Quinn, Pedro Florimon and Jesmuel Valentin all offer more versatility, Ortiz was an extreme long shot to open the campaign in the big leagues. Ortiz will likely work in a full-time role at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and wait for an injury to open up an opportunity for him with the Phillies.

Phillies' Danny Ortiz: Agrees to terms with Phillies
Ortiz signed a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training with Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Ortiz appeared in nine games with the Pirates in 2017, but went just 1-for-12 with one walk during his brief major-league debut. The 27-year-old has toiled around at the Triple-A level for the last few seasons, and isn't likely to make much of an impact with the Phillies moving forward.

Pirates' Danny Ortiz: Outrighted to Triple-A
Ortiz cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
Ortiz is slashing .259/.291/.450 with 12 homers in 86 minor-league games this season. The 27-year-old saw a brief cup of coffee with the big club earlier in the season, but he recorded just one hit in 12 at-bats. He'll continue to serve as organizational depth moving forward.

The Pirates optioned Ortiz to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
His demotion makes room for Gregory Polanco (hamstring) to return from the disabled list. Ortiz was fulfilling a utility role but went just 1-for-13 at the plate in nine appearances. He'll remain on call as organizational depth with a seat on the shuttle.

Pirates' Danny Ortiz: Called back to majors
Ortiz was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old outfielder will fill the roster spot of Gregory Polanco (hamstring) after he was placed on the disabled list. Ortiz received a callup at the end of April, but he didn't appear in a game, so he'll look to impress the organization in his impending major-league debut. Prior to being recalled, Ortiz batted .253 with nine runs scored and three stolen bases for Indianapolis.

Ortiz was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday.
Ortiz was promoted to the majors Saturday to serve as a bench bat against the Marlins but did not receive an at-bat during the game. He'll head back to the minors, where he'll continue to receive regular at-bats with Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates' Danny Ortiz: Recalled by Pirates
Ortiz was recalled by the Pirates on Saturday.
With David Freese (hamstring) bound for the 10-day DL, the Pirates needed an extra bat and selected the 27-year-old from Triple-A Indianapolis. Ortiz impressed in spring training with a .314 batting average over 25 games, but he's struggled to a .217/.266/.233 slash line thus far in the minors. Don't expect too much out of the youngster in what is likely a temporary promotion.

Pirates' Danny Ortiz: Collects one RBI
Ortiz went 1-for-5 with an RBI while striking out twice for Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.
The 26-year-old is 6-for-23 with two RBI in his first six games with Indianapolis this season. Last year he hit .248/.295/.430 with 17 home runs and 78 RBI for Triple-A Rochester in the Twins' organization. Ortiz saw a decent amount of action this spring, but failed to capitalize on his opportunities, only recording eight hits in 40 at-bats. Since he has no previous experience in the majors, it is unlikely that he'll get called up to the Pirates this season barring multiple injuries.

Pirates' Danny Ortiz: Signs contract with Pittsburgh
Ortiz signed a contract with the Pirates on Monday, Brandon Warne of Cold Omaha 96.3 reports.
Ortiz will likely start the 2016 season in the Pirates' minor league system, and there is a decent chance he doesn't leave the minors at all. He has yet to make a major league appearance and was signed by Pittsburgh after spending his career in the Twins' organization.
