Jason Gurka: Cut loose Sunday
Gurka was released by the Orioles on Sunday, David Hall of The Virginian-Pilot reports.
Gurka made 16 relief appearances at Triple-A Norfolk this season, posting a 3.18 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with 24 strikeouts across 22.2 innings. His last big-league stint came in 2017 with the Angels.

Orioles' Jason Gurka: Sent to minor-league camp
Gurka was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Gurka had pitched in three Grapefruit League games this spring. While two were fine outings, one was a brutal showing for the 30-year-old. Over one inning against the Phillies on Feb. 24, Gurka gave up three hits and hit one batter with a pitch, all of which resulted in him surrendering three runs. He'll likely be assigned to Triple-A Norfolk once the season gets underway.

Orioles' Jason Gurka: Invited to spring training
Gurka has been invited to the Orioles' spring training as a non-roster invitee, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.
The 2017 season was a tale of two halves for Gurka. He opened the year at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he posted a lofty 5.40 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over 30 games (16.2 innings). However, he improved after being traded to the Angels and threw for a 2.12 ERA and 1.18 WHIP during 30 games (34 innings) at Triple-A Salt Lake. Should he replicate the form he showed at Salt Lake, Gurka could earn a chance to pitch in Baltimore's bullpen.

Orioles' Jason Gurka: Signs minor-league deal with O's
Gurka inked a minor-league contract with Baltimore on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Gurka spent most of the 2017 season at Triple-A but did appear briefly in three games for the Angels at the big-league level in September. The southpaw struggled during 30 games with the Yankees' Triple-A squad, but settled down a bit once he got to Salt Lake City, sporting a 2.12 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 34 innings with the Bees. Looking ahead, he will likely start off at Triple-A Norfolk and serve as depth for the Orioles' bullpen.

Angels' Jason Gurka: Outrighted to Triple-A
Gurka cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.
Gurka will report to Salt Lake after being designated for assignment earlier in the month to clear room on the 40-man roster for the recently acquired Felix Pena. He made just three appearances for the Angels in 2017, allowing two hits and a walk in just 0.2 innings of work. Given his lack of major-league experience, Gurka will likely open next season in the minors.

Gurka was called up by the Angels on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Three days after being released by the Yankees in June, Gurka signed a minor-league deal with the Angels, and he went on to post a 2.12 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB in 30 appearances with Triple-A Salt Lake. Gurka has been rewarded with a September callup, but it's difficult to imagine the lefty will separate himself from the bullpen pack over the season's final month.

Gurka agreed to a minor league deal with the Yankees that includes an invitation to spring training.
The 29-year-old reliever was released by the Rockies in August of last year after struggling mightily in the majors. In just 17.1 big league innings, he has accumulated a career 9.35 ERA. He pitched well at Triple-A, posting a 1.63 ERA in 21.1 innings during 2016, but his major league struggles will probably force him into an organizational depth role.

Gurka, a 28-year-old lefty reliever, had excellent Triple-A numbers (1.65 ERA, 32.6-percent strikeout rate), but his career 9.35 ERA in 17.1 big league innings may have sealed his fate. He will look to catch on with another club on a minor league deal.

Rockies' Jason Gurka: Optioned to Triple-A on Friday
Gurka was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
The left-handed reliever was able to land a spot on the Rockies' Opening Day roster, but he struggled mightily once the season got underway. He allowed multiple earned runs in each of his first four outings and has only had one scoreless frame in six total appearances. He'll head down to Triple-A to get some extra coaching, but he could be back up with the Rockies the next time they need another lefty out of the bullpen.

Gurka has earned a spot on the Rockies' Opening Day roster.
Gurka was in a battle with both Scott Oberg and Brandon Barnes for one of the two remaining spots and finished spring training with a stat line (1.80 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 20:1 K:BB) worthy of making the Opening Day roster. Despite securing a spot in the bullpen, it's unlikely he will serve in anything more than a middle relief role for the Rockies early on, so he can safely be avoided in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Rockies' Jason Gurka: Competing for final two roster spots
Gurka is in the running for one of the final two roster spots, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Right-hander Scott Oberg and outfielder Brandon Barnes are also competing for the two spots. The left-hander has been sharp this spring, allowing two earned runs on nine hits in nine innings. He's also displayed ridiculous command, posting an outstanding 19:1 K/BB ratio. His major league debut did not go well last season, but if the Rockies are simply going off of spring stats, it would be hard to send Gurka to the minors after a performance like this.
