  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Could be done for season

Candelario (toe) is unlikely to return and finish the season, MLB.com reports. Candelario, who was hit by a pitch during a game Aug. 18, landed on the injured list a couple of days later and has yet to resume baseball activities. Cincinnati manager David Bell said Saturday that it looks like Candelario will not be back this season, adding there is still pain in the toe. If that's it for Candelario, he'll finish his first season as a member of the Reds with 20 home runs, 56 RBI, four steals, 47 runs scored and a line of .225/.279/.429 over 112 games.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Yet to resume baseball activities

Candelario (toe) has yet to resume baseball activities, MLB.com reports. Candelario is almost three weeks removed from suffering a fractured left great toe and remains limited to rehabilitation work due to lingering discomfort. It shouldn't take long for him to become game-ready once the soreness subsides, but it's not clear when/if that might happen before the end of the season.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Still feeling discomfort

Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that Candelario is still feeling pain in his fractured left great toe, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. It's not a surprise to hear considering he's just a week removed from landing on the 10-day injured list, but it emphasizes that Candelario is not close to a return. The Reds presumably won't allow him to resume baseball activities until he's pain-free, and after that he'll need a little time to get ramped back up.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Goes on IL with fractured toe

The Reds placed Candelario on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a fractured left great toe. Candelario played the duration of Monday's win over the Blue Jays, so it's not clear when he suffered the injury. It's also uncertain at this juncture how long he might be sidelined. Candelario has seen most of his playing time lately at designated hitter and first base. His absence could create more opportunities for Ty France, Jake Fraley and Will Benson, as well as new waiver claim Amed Rosario, who is taking Candelario's roster spot.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Reaches 20-homer mark

Candelario went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Royals on Saturday. The Reds were thoroughly dominated in the contest, but Candelario at least prevented the team from being shut out with his seventh-inning solo blast. It was the infielder's 20th long ball of the campaign, marking the second straight season that he's reached that total. Though Candelario has experienced a drop in his batting average this season from .251 to .226, he's on pace to surpass last year's career-high marks of 22 long balls and 70 RBI.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Fighting slump

Candelario went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 5-4 loss to Detroit. The steal was the fourth of the season for Candelario, who swiped a career-high eight bags in 2023. • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Starts at first base

Candelario started at first base and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Yankees. This was Candelario's first start in the field since returning from a hamstring injury over the weekend. He served as Cincinnati's designated hitter the previous two games. As a result of him playing first base, Spencer Steer moved to left field for the day.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Returns as DH

Candelario started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Cardinals. Candelario sat out four consecutive games due to a hamstring injury before returning Sunday. Once he's ready to play the field, it won't be as the club's primary third baseman. While Candelario was out, Noelvi Marte was reinstated from a suspension and became the regular starter at third base. That means Candelario will move to either DH or first base.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Returning from four-game absence

Candelario (hamstring) will serve as the Reds' designated hitter and No. 3 batter in Sunday's game against the Cardinals. After missing out on four straight starts due to hamstring tendinitis, Candelario will draw back into the lineup in a non-defensive role as he makes his fifth start of the season at DH. With Noelvi Marte recently completing his 80-game suspension and likely to see the bulk of the starts at third base moving forward, Candelario could end up picking up most of his playing time at either DH or first base, which should aid his recovery from the hamstring issue.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Aiming for Sunday return

Candelario (hamstring) is on track to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Candelario hasn't played since Tuesday as he tends to hamstring tendinitis. However, he's set to make his return for the series finale Sunday and will avoid a stint on the IL. In his stead, Noelvi Marte should continue to start at third base while Spencer Steer handles first base work, but it's not yet clear how the workload at the infield corners will be divided between the trio once Candelario is healthy.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Held out again Friday

Candelario (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game in St. Louis. It's the third straight day on the bench for Candelario, who has been dealing with hamstring tendinitis since last week. There are no indications to this point that he might require a trip to the 10-day injured list, but the Reds will be forced to consider a move if he remains sidelined much longer. Noelvi Marte and Spencer Steer are again handling the infield corners for the Reds on Friday.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Dealing with hamstring tendinitis

Reds manager David Bell clarified Wednesday that Candelario is dealing with hamstring tendinitis and is considered day-to-day, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Candelario has been nursing the issue for more than a week, with Bell saying before Wednesday's loss to the Pirates that the injury is "progressively not getting better." However, the team doesn't seem to have any plans at this time to put Candelario on the 10-day injured list. Even if Candelario avoids the IL, he could still be deployed at designated hitter for a few games to ease the stress on his legs.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Battling knee tendinitis

Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Candelario is dealing with knee tendinitis that is "progressively not getting better" and "maybe a bit worse," Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Candelario -- who is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Pirates -- was removed from a game last week with the knee issue, and it has continued to nag at him. Bell noted that Candelario is still able to play but added that the infielder will be re-evaluated later Wednesday as the club decides how to best handle the situation. With Noelvi Marte looking likely to return from an 80-game suspension Thursday to provide the club another option at third base, it's possible the Reds will choose to put Candelario on the injured list if they determine his knee would improve with some extended rest.
