Rays' Micah Johnson: Sent back to minors camp
The Rays reassigned Johnson to their minor-league camp Sunday.
Johnson impressed in Grapefruit League play with a .316 average and .381 on-base percentage across 16 games, but his status as non-roster player likely hurt his chances of breaking camp with the big club. He'll presumably settle into a full-time role in the infield at Triple-A Durham to begin the upcoming campaign.

Rays' Micah Johnson: Continues torrid spring Wednesday
Johnson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs in Wednesday's 9-3 Grapefruit League win over the Pirates.
Johnson took Pirates stater Ivan Nova deep in the fourth for his first round tripper of spring, checking off yet another box in what has been a strong exhibition slate overall. The 27-year-old continues to make a strong case for a reserve infield spot, with Wednesday's homer pushing his spring average to .381 over 25 plate appearances.

Rays' Micah Johnson: Improving stock with strong spring
Johnson could push for a reserve role on the active roster to start the season if he continues his hot spring, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Manager Kevin Cash seemingly prefers to have more of a right-handed presence on the bench given how many lefties are in the starting lineup, but it's hard to argue with Johnson's results this spring. In nine games, the 27-year-old is 7-for-18 with a 1.111 OPS and a 4:3 K:BB. He may hit left-handed, but Johnson's positional versatility and spring success could force the Rays' hand. Brandon Snyder and Jason Coats are also in the mix.

Rays' Micah Johnson: Vying for second-base job
Johnson is competing for the second-base job alongside Daniel Robertson, Joey Wendle and Willy Adames, Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times reports.
Manager Kevin Cash said that the recent trade of Ryan Schimpf to the Braves on Monday opened up a little more competition at the keystone, paving the way for Johnson to receive more reps in the Grapefruit League. It doesn't seem likely that Johnson will win the job, as he's appeared in just 61 major-league games over the course of his career, but he could earn a spot on the Opening Day roster as a utility man if he's able to impress in camp.

Rays' Micah Johnson: Sent outright to Triple-A
Johnson was outrighted to Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The Rays needed room on the 40-man roster for reliever Sergio Romo, and Johnson wound up being the roster casualty. The utility man appeared in the majors each of the past three seasons, but he hasn't hit higher than .230 in any of those stints. He'll likely pose as an organizational depth piece unless injuries ravage the Rays' position players.

Rays' Micah Johnson: Claimed by Rays
Johnson was claimed off waivers by the Rays on Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Johnson, who is coming off an injury-shortened 2017 campaign, will join his fourth team this offseason after being designated for assignment by the Giants last week (he was previously with the Braves and Reds before his brief stint with San Francisco). While he only appeared in 40 games with Triple-A Gwinnett last season due to a fractured wrist, Johnson hit a respectable .289/.377/.400 there. He hasn't been able to find any tangible success at the major-league level, however, slashing just .224/.291/.259 in 61 games. Still, he'll look to fight for a role as the Rays' utility man in 2018.

Giants' Micah Johnson: Designated for assignment
Johnson was designated for assignment Monday, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
In an effort to create more space on the 40-man roster, the Giants opted to designate Johnson for assignment. Johnson spent most of the 2017 season at Triple-A Gwinnett, where he hit .289 with a .777 OPS over 40 games. Johnson does have some experience in the majors, but he's looked overmatched in those opportunities. Over 61 games in his career, Johnson has slashed .224/.291/.259.

Giants' Micah Johnson: Scooped up by Giants
Johnson was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Johnson will head to San Francisco after being designated for assignment for the second time in as many weeks (first by the Braves, then the Reds). Johnson spent most of his injury-shortened season in the minors, compiling a .295/.386/.396 line across 45 games. He spent brief time with the Braves as well, serving mostly as a pinch hitting or pinch runner and going just 2-for-10 (.200) with four strikeouts. He'll try and earn himself a role as the Giants' utility man in 2018.

Reds' Micah Johnson: Claimed by Reds
Johnson was claimed off waivers by the Reds on Thursday, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Johnson was designated for assignment by the Braves earlier in the week after turning in an injury-shortened campaign. He spent most of his time in the minors after missing the first four months of the season with a wrist issue, compiling a .295/.386/.396 line across 45 games. He did appear in 18 games for the Braves, but served mostly as a pinch hitter or pinch runner and went just 2-for-10 (.200) with four strikeouts. He'll fight for a role as the Reds' utility man in 2018.

Johnson was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
Johnson will rejoin the Braves for a third time this season. He only appeared in four games for the big club earlier in the season, going 0-for-4 with a trio of strikeouts, so he should resume a limited role off the bench now that he's back with Atlanta.

Johnson was designated for assignment by the Braves on Friday, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports.
In order to create more spots on the 40-man roster for September promotions, the club decided to designated Johnson for assignment after four largely irrelevant appearances at the big-league level this season. The 26-year-old has only played double-digit games in the majors once -- coming in 2015 with the White Sox -- and has only recorded one big-league hit in the past two seasons. Prior to this move, he had gone 8-for-21 during the past five games with Triple-A Norfolk, and could remain with the organization if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Braves' Micah Johnson: Club retracts DFA
Johnson was not designated for assignment Friday, according to the Braves, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Although the club officially listed Johnson as being designated for assignment prior to Friday's game with the Cubs, it appears as though it made a mistake and will keep the infielder on the active roster. He remains with Triple-A Gwinnett, where he's been stationed for the past couple weeks, and on the 40-man roster.

Braves' Micah Johnson: Sent back to minors
Johnson was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.
Just a day after joining the Braves to replace the injured Danny Santana (quad), Johnson was sent back to the minors to clear room for Matt Kemp (hamstring). The 26-year-old struck out in his only at-bat Friday, and he's now 0-for-4 on the year for the Braves. He'll head back to the minors until rosters expand in September.

Johnson was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.
Johnson will make another trip back to the big leagues in response to Danny Santana landing on the disabled list with a quad injury. The utility man has barely seen any time with Atlanta this season -- earning just three at-bats in 2017 -- but was hitting the ball at a good pace with the Triple-A team. He will serve as middle infield and outfield depth while he's in the majors.

Johnson was recalled by the Braves on Friday.
Johnson was activated from the 60-day DL earlier this month and optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett, but returns to the Braves after slashing .378/.452/.568 over 11 Triple-A contests. The 26-year-old, acquired from the Dodgers over the offseason, underwent wrist surgery back in March, and likely slots in as a utility bat off the bench for the time being. Johnson takes the roster spot of Dansby Swanson, who was sent down earlier this week.

Braves' Micah Johnson: Rehabbing at Triple-A
Johnson (wrist) has appeared in 16 games spanning three affiliates during his current rehab assignment. He's made his last 11 appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett, batting .378/.452/.568 over those contests.
The 26-year-old has been on the disabled list all season with the wrist injury, but given the recent form he's shown at Gwinnett, it shouldn't be long before the Braves activate him. However, with both Sean Rodriguez and Danny Santana filling utility roles for the big club, there likely won't be a need for Johnson at the big-league level once his rehab assignment ends, so it seems highly likely he'll be optioned back to Gwinnett once activated. It seems more likely that Johnson surfaces with the Braves as a September call-up.

Braves' Micah Johnson: Ramping up activity
Manager Brian Snitker said Johnson (wrist) was "turning it loose" while taking indoor batting practice Monday, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan reports.
This is a good sign for Johnson, who has been sidelined all season while recovering from a fractured wrist. Barring any setbacks, he's expected to head to extended spring training relatively soon to ramp up his rehab activities before eventually heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment.
