• Yankees' Aaron Judge: Will get early at-bats in spring

  Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that he expects Judge to play in "four or five" of the team's first nine Grapefruit League games before he joins Team USA in early March for the World Baseball Classic, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports. Veterans like Judge are typically eased into spring lineups, but he'll get in some competitive at-bats early in camp to ensure he's sharp ahead of the WBC. Boone also reiterated that Judge will be a full participant in full-squad workouts throughout the week and is facing no limitations with his throwing after a flexor strain in his right elbow resulted in a brief stay on the injured list last July and kept him from playing the outfield for about five weeks. In spite of the elbow concern, Judge continued to thrive at the plate and took home his third American League MVP Award last season while batting a career-best .331 and slugging 53 home runs over 152 games.

  Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Judge's right elbow is "doing really well" as the outfielder ramps up his throwing ahead of the World Baseball Classic, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Judge spent time on the injured list and was limited to serving as a designated hitter for a while during the second half of last season due to a flexor strain. He returned to the outfield in September and surgery was deemed unnecessary. At this point, there does not seem to be any worry from the Yankees or Judge that the reigning AL MVP's elbow issue will linger into 2026.

  Judge was named the American League's Most Valuable Player by the Baseball Writers' Association of America on Thursday. He narrowly beat out Cal Raleigh to win the third MVP award of his career. Judge hit a career-best .331 across 679 plate appearances during the 2025 regular season while also topping 50 home runs for the third time in his last four campaigns. The 33-year-old played through an elbow injury during the second half of the season but won't require offseason surgery and should be fully healthy for spring training.

Judge needed a brief stint on the injured list after being diagnosed with a flexor strain in late July, and he was limited to designated-hitter duty for a month upon his return. However, the injury has either already healed or is on track to do so without surgery, and Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that he expects Judge to be ready to serve as the team's full-time right fielder next season.

  Judge on Wednesday didn't dismiss the possibility of undergoing surgery to repair the flexor strain in his right elbow, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. Following the Yankees' elimination from the postseason, Judge said of his elbow that "we'll definitely do some work on it and get it right." When asked whether that could mean surgery, he replied, "I'm not a doctor. I don't know." Judge was diagnosed with a flexor strain in late July, spent 10 days on the injured list and was limited to designated hitter for a month upon his return. He played right field regularly over the final few weeks of the regular season and in the playoffs, but his throwing was noticeably compromised. A decision on how best to treat Judge's elbow injury should be made soon.
