Frias signed a minor-league contract with the Indians on Tuesday.
Frias is back with the Indians after spending all of last season with the team's Triple-A affiliate in Columbus. The 28-year-old made 30 appearances for Columbus in 2017, posting an unsightly 8.05 ERA and 21:22 K:BB across 38 innings. He'll report to minor-league camp and should serve as organizational bullpen depth for the Indians in 2018.

Frias has had a rough year, including going unclaimed after being DFA'd in May. He's appeared in 33 MLB games (all with the Dodgers), but it appears his chances at the big leagues have all but expired at age 27.

Frias could make the club as an eighth reliever if starter Carlos Carrasco opens the season on the disabled list, Ross D. Franklin of the Associated Press reports.
The Jays acquired the right-hander from the Dodgers in an offseason trade, but it's a bit surprising that Frias has made it to the finish line of big-league camp. After two unnoticeable seasons (2014-15) on the west coast, the 27-year-old was hurt in the latter half of 2016 before the Dodgers dumped him. Cleveland may choose to enter Opening Day with an overloaded bullpen, as the team won't need a fifth starter until mid-April. Even if that's the case and Frias makes the team, he won't have fantasy appeal unless he can work his way into a bigger role.

Frias put together a decent spring and came close to making the big-league roster. The righty logged a 3.86 ERA over seven Cactus League innings, but racked up a 1.43 WHIP while opposing hitters owned a .310 BAA. He'll likely see some action with the Indians when the need for bullpen help arises.

Frias is one of 20 pitchers in camp vying for the lone bullpen spot remaining on the team's 25-man roster, Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com reports.
Frias may be the underdog in the competition, but he brings an appealing ability to fill a long-relief role while being able to handle the occasional spot start when needed. Although the numbers may be underwhelming, 15 of Frias' 33 MLB outings have come as a starter, so he is capable of playing the part when the Indians are in a bind. He'll need an extraordinary spring to make the Opening Day roster, but even if Frias manages to do so, the right-hander doesn't bring fantasy appeal in most formats.

Indians' Carlos Frias: Traded to Indians
Frias was traded from the Dodgers to the Indians on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The righty was designated for assignment by the Dodgers last week, so this trade doesn't come as too much of a surprise. Over parts of the last three seasons, Frias logged a 4.50 ERA in 114 innings with the big league club, although he also spent time in the minors. After an injury forced him to miss the second half of 2016, he will look to bounce back and compete for a bullpen spot with the Indians in 2017. Richie Shaffer was designated for assignment to open up a 40-man roster spot for Frias.

Frias was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Wednesday.
A spot was needed for outfielder Brett Eibner, whom the Dodgers acquired in a trade with Oakland, and Frias was the roster casualty. Frias turned in respectable numbers in 10 appearances between Double-A and Triple-A last season but an injury put him on the shelf for the entire second half. Now 27, Frias has posted a 4.58 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 10.5 H/9, 2.2 BB/9 and 6.7 K/9 in parts of three seasons at the Triple-A level (149.1 innings).

Frias was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday and placed on the 60-day DL.
This amounts to nothing more than a procedural move to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. Frias had been on the DL at Oklahoma City since mid-July and will not pitch again this season.

The right-hander was sent packing a day after his arrival from Oklahoma City, with the Dodgers deciding to go back to a four-man bench. Frias has made six starts in the minors this season (10 total appearances) but it's hard to imagine he'll be anything more than a spot-start option for the big club in the second half.
