Dalier Hinojosa: Ends playing career
Hinojosa has announced his retirement from professional baseball, CiberCuba.com reports.
After an eight-year career in Cuba, Hinojosa made the jump to affiliated ball in 2014, reaching the majors with the Red Sox the following year. He recorded a 1.51 ERA in 35.2 innings over parts of two seasons in the big leagues, but missed the entire 2017 campaign due to shoulder issues and elected to end his career.

Hinojosa (hand) was activated from the 15-day DL and optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Meghan Montemurro of The News Journal reports.
Hinojosa has made three rehab appearances for Lehigh Valley following three previous appearances for High-A Clearwater, but he surrendered at least a hit on each occasion. Rather than use him in middle relief in the majors, the Phillies will instead keep him on reserve at Triple-A when the need for bullpen depth arises.

Hinojosa (hand) will begin a rehab assignment at High-A Clearwater on Monday, Megahan Montemurro of The News Journal reports.
As expected, Hinojosa will head out on rehab after throwing a 30-pitch, live batting practice session over the weekend. It's unclear how many games the right-hander will require on rehab, but he figures to make a handful of appearances considering he's been out for nearly two months.

Phillies' Dalier Hinojosa: Will receive CT scan for bruised hamate bone
Hinojosa will get a CT scan after it was revealed there is swelling around his hamate bone Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of The News Journal reports.
Hinojosa was hit in his pitching hand by a comebacker on April 30 and while initial X-rays came back negative, persistent swelling has called for the need of a CT scan. Results of the scan will likely be released in the coming days and will give a much clearer idea of how long he'll be sidelined.

Manager Pete Mackanin would not commit to using Hinojosa when asked if he would close should a save chance present itself Thursday, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports. "That's a good question," Mackanin said. "Let me think about that."
Hinojosa blew a save Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits. Mackanin said it looked like Hinojosa was "overthrowing a little." Mackanin also said he believes Hinojosa has the stuff to close, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him go with another pitcher Thursday if a save chance arises. David Hernandez could be next up.

Phillies' Dalier Hinojosa: Implodes in ninth Wednesday
Hinojosa (0-1) melted down in the ninth inning Wednesday against the Reds, giving up four hits and two runs while recording just one out to take a walk-off loss.
Two games into the season, the back of the Philadelphia bullpen is already a total mess -- David Hernandez got lit up in the opener and Hinojosa certainly didn't look like the answer at closer here in his season debut. Sure, it's just one game, but the 30-year-old Cuban doesn't have a long track record in the majors and hasn't necessarily excelled in the minors. It'll probably take more than this to cost him the job, but Hinojosa's already a low-end closer due to what projects to be a lack of save chances -- compounding that with unreliability isn't a good formula for fantasy success.

David Hernandez blew the lead in the eighth inning, so Hinojosa did not get his chance. He should get the next opportunity that comes up given how poorly Hernandez pitched Monday.

Phillies' Dalier Hinojosa: Still in the mix for closing duties
Hinojosa remains in the mix to close for the Phillies, Ryan Lawrence of the Philly Voice reports.
Manager Pete Mackanin said Monday that he is still trying to figure out "the best way to go" with his closing situation. He also said he won't name a closer until he is 100 percent sure about putting someone in that role. That could lead to the Phillies opening the year with a committee. Hinojosa and David Hernandez look like the top two choices to close at the moment. Hernandez may be the slight favorite for the job. Andrew Bailey, who was once considered the front-runner to close, might now be looking at a trip to Triple-A at the start of the season.
