Jacob May: Released by White Sox
May was cut loose by the White Sox on Saturday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.
May will look to latch on elsewhere after slashing .255/.303/.341 with two home runs and 30 RBI over 81 games with Triple-A Charlotte.

White Sox's Jacob May: Designated for assignment
May was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Thursday.
In order to make room for recently acquired pitcher Miguel Gonzalez, the team cast May off the 40-man roster. The outfielder appeared in 15 games for Chicago in 2017, going 2-for-36 with three RBI and three walks during his first opportunity in the big leagues. May will ready himself for another season at the Triple-A level with Charlotte, assuming he passes through waivers unclaimed.

White Sox's Jacob May: Optioned to Triple-A Charlotte
May was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte following Monday's game, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The White Sox will wait to announce a corresponding move until Tuesday. May went just 2-for-36 over his 15 games with the White Sox and struck out 17 times, so it clearly wasn't happening for him at the MLB level. Leury Garcia will hold down the center-field job for now, but it's unclear how long that'll last.

White Sox's Jacob May: Collects first MLB hit
May entered Saturday's game as a pinch hitter and delivered his first hit in the major leagues. He went 1-for-2 with a strikeout in a 7-0 loss to Cleveland.
May served as a pinch hitter for Melky Cabrera, who left the game with a wrist injury, and played left field. After opening the season as the team's starting center fielder, May struggled at the plate and has since been sharing the job with Leury Garcia. If Cabrera's injury costs him any time, May will be in line for at-bats but those aren't at-bats fantasy owners want.

White Sox's Jacob May: Returns to lineup Saturday
May returned to the lineup Saturday after sitting three straight games. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the White Sox's 6-0 loss to the Twins.
May earned the starting job in center field based on his productive spring, but we're relearning the old adage that spring training stats don't guarantee regular-season success. He's hitless over 20 plate appearances with eight strikeouts, one walk, one run and two RBI to start his MLB career. Leury Garcia is the top backup, but his .191 career average over 163 games in the majors ought to deter fantasy owners who think there might be a gem hidden somewhere in Chicago's outfield. This position could be ugly until whenever Charlie Tilson (foot) is ready to return sometime this summer.

White Sox's Jacob May: Remains out Thursday
May is not in the lineup Thursday against the Indians.
May has seen his playing time dwindle after failing to garner a hit yet this year, and Thursday marks the second day in a row that view the game from the bench. Leury Garcia will patrol center field once again in his place.

White Sox's Jacob May: Takes seat Wednesday
May is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Indians.
The 26-year-old outfielder hasn't amounted to anything at the plate thus far, going 0-for-14 with six strikeouts in his six games played. May will cede the start to Leury Garcia for the afternoon, and could do so a bit more frequently if he is unable to pick things up at the plate.

White Sox's Jacob May: Not in Friday's lineup
May is out of the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Twins.
The 25-year-old is 0-for-6 through his first two MLB games, but has added a pair of RBI. May will need to prove his worth if he is to hold on to a starting role in the White Sox's outfield while Charlie Tilson (foot) is on the mend. Leury Garcia, meanwhile, will take over in center field for Friday's contest.

White Sox's Jacob May: Hitless in MLB debut
May went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and an RBI groundout in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Tigers.
May was making his major-league debut Tuesday, batting ninth and starting in center field. With no MLB track record and just 301 at-bats at Triple-A Charlotte, May should be approached skeptically by fantasy owners.

White Sox's Jacob May: Hits ninth Friday
May started in center field and batted ninth in the order in Friday's exhibition against the Brewers.
Manager Rick Renteria fielded a lineup that could look very much like a regular-season batting order. May, who emerged as the White Sox's starting center fielder during training camp, was used mostly in the leadoff spot this spring but appears headed for nine-hole when the season begins Monday.

White Sox's Jacob May: Will not bat leadoff
May, who had two hits as the leadoff hitter Tuesday, will not bat leadoff immediately for the White Sox, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
May has emerged as Chicago's starting center fielder after the team traded Peter Bourjos to the Rays on Monday. Manager Rick Renteria does not want to put the pressure of leading off on the rookie May, who has a career .273 batting average and .332 on-base percentage in the minors, though Renteria feels he could eventually become the leadoff guy. May spent 14 spring games as the team's leadoff hitter and another seven in the nine-hole.

White Sox's Jacob May: In line for at-bats following Bourjos trade
May's main competition for the Opening Day center field job, Peter Bourjos, was traded to the Rays on Monday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.
An injury to Charlie Tilson (foot) opened the door for May to start the season in center for the White Sox, and May has burst right through it. The 26-year-old May has raked in spring training, as he owns a .339 batting average and .886 OPS in 59 spring at-bats. He hasn't shown much power in the minors, but he's quite speedy, as he needed just 83 games to rack up 19 steals last season and has tallied as many as 37 in a single minor-league campaign. Whether May can retain playing time after Tilson returns from injury (he's expected back in late May) remains to be seen, but for now, the out-of-nowhere outfielder should be watched as a sneaky source of speed in deep leagues.

White Sox's Jacob May: Belts leadoff homer Saturday
May went 2-for-4 with a home run in Saturday's game against the Indians, improving his spring batting line to .365/.389/577.
The light-hitting May continues to make a case as a replacement center fielder for the injured Charlie Tilson (foot). The competition is down to May and non-roster invitee Peter Bourjos, who would need to be added to the 40-man roster. Adding Bourjos shouldn't be a big deal as the White Sox have some room on the 40-man should they decide to go with the veteran over May. Eventually, the White Sox want Tilson in this job, but he's been an injury magnet since coming over from the Cardinals last year.

White Sox's Jacob May: Remains in center field mix
May went 4-for-6 with a double, a triple and two runs scored in Saturday's game against the Dodgers.
May won't go away in the competition to be the White Sox's starter in center field, a job now up for grabs after Charlie Tilson's foot injury will have him begin the regular season on the disabled list. Non-roster invitee Peter Bourjos is considered the front-runner, but after Saturday's outburst, the switch-hitting May sports a line of .357/.386/.548 over 44 spring plate appearances.

White Sox's Jacob May: Swipes two bags Sunday
May went 2-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases and a run scored in Sunday's game against the Rangers.
May's greatest asset is his speed, and he now has a team-high four steals this spring. He could probably use a bit more seasoning in the minors, but Charlie Tilson's lingering foot injury has opened up a competition in center field. Tilson suffered a setback over the weekend and looks like he'll start the season on the disabled list. May and Adam Engel (who are both on the 40-man roster) and non-roster invitee Peter Bourjos will be given at-bats as the competition plays out over the final weeks of spring training.

White Sox's Jacob May: Added to 40-man roster Friday
May was added to the White Sox's 40-man roster Friday.
Although his walk rate sunk and his strikeout rate rose in his first taste of Triple-A, May's plus-plus speed has kept him on the up-and-up in the White Sox organization. A bit more time in the minors certainly wouldn't hurt his development, but the 25-year-old certainly could find his way to the south side if he can make more consistent contact against advanced pitching.

White Sox's Jacob May: Back in action with Triple-A squad
May (oblique) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in a game with Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.
May missed over a month due to his oblique injury, but he returned to action Tuesday, and did not wait long to post a multi-hit game. He is seeing Triple-A action this season for the first time in his career and owns a .681 OPS through 38 games.

White Sox's Jacob May: Placed on DL with oblique strain
May was placed on the 7-day disabled list with an oblique strain, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.
May left Sunday's game against Durham in the sixth inning when he was replaced by a pinch hitter. It's unclear how the injury occurred or how severe it is, but obliques are rather notorious for taking a good amount of time to fully heal, so he may be on the shelf a bit longer than the minimum seven days.
