Giants' Joan Gregorio: Sent to minor-league camp
Gregorio was reassigned to minor-league camp Monday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Gregorio's usage was limited for the Giants this spring, as he tossed just 4.1 innings over five games. Over said outings he gave up two runs on four hits, with two being home runs. He'll likely return to Triple-A Sacramento for the upcoming season. Over 13 games (74 innings) with Sacramento last year, Gregorio logged a 3.04 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.

Giants' Joan Gregorio: Returns to camp with Giants
Gregorio returned to San Francisco's spring camp as a non-roster invitee Thursday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Gregorio was previously designated for assignment by the Giants on Monday after the team needed to make room for Tony Watson on the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old has spent the last two years with Triple-A Sacramento and posted a 3.04 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 74 innings this past season.

Giants' Joan Gregorio: Designated for assignment
Gregorio was designated for assignment Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The Giants had to make room on the 40-man roster for new signing Tony Watson. Gregorio had a 3.04 ERA in 74 innings at Triple-A Sacremento last season, though his 5.11 FIP indicates that he was quite lucky to record an ERA that low. He was suspended in July after testing positive for Stanozolol.

Giants' Joan Gregorio: Suspended for rest of 2017
Gregorio (back) was suspended for the rest of 2017 for testing positive for Stanozolol.
He would have been a candidate to come up and help the Giants out of the bullpen at some point in the second half once he returned from a back injury, but his big-league debut will have to wait until at least 2018. Gregorio notched a 3.04 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 61:35 K:BB in 74 innings for Triple-A Sacramento prior to his injury and suspension.

Giants' Joan Gregorio: Expected to miss one month with injury
Gregorio (back), who is listed on the 7-day disabled list for Triple-A Sacramento, is expected to miss at least a month with the injury, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Gregorio likely would have been a candidate for a promotion to the big club Wednesday with Giants closer Mark Melancon (elbow) landing on the DL, but the back issue removed him out of consideration. It now looks like Gregorio, who sports a 3.04 ERA and 61:35 K:BB over 74 innings this season with Sacramento, may not get his first look in the majors until September with the injury robbing him of important development time.

Giants' Joan Gregorio: Optioned to minors
Gregorio was optioned to the minors Sunday, CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports.
Gregorio wasn't expected to make the 25-man roster this spring, so this move was to be expected. He struggled with his promotion to Triple-A Sacramento last season, posting 5.28 ERA in 107.1 innings. Gregorio experienced some bad batted-ball luck (.343 BABIP and 65.3 percent stand rate), but he also showed flashes of his dominant stuff (2.8 K/BB), so he'll get another shot with Triple-A Sacramento and look to improve on last year's numbers.

Giants' Joan Gregorio: Has trouble with 2016 level promotion
Gregorio was promoted to Triple-A Sacramento in 2016, finishing with a 5.28 ERA over 107.1 innings.
Gregorio struggled with the promotion, but looking deeper, it wasn't all that bad for the promising young arm. He kept his strikeout rate high (10.2 K/9) without dramatically increasing his walks (3.6 BB/9). His .343 BABIP against and 65.3 percent strand rate indicate that he was a victim of some bad luck. The significant jump in homers allowed (1.1 HR/9) can be put on him, but the move to the hitter-friendly PCL likely affected that total as well. Gregorio should start the year with Triple-A Sacramento again and look to bounce back after a lackluster debut last season. He remains one of the Giants top pitching prospects.

Giants' Joan Gregorio: Starting again
Gregorio, 24, has a 1.69 ERA and 21:5 K:BB through 16 innings for Double-A Richmond.
The 6-foot-7 Gregorio has been shifted back to the starting rotation after being relegated mostly to the bullpen last season. He remains a bit of a project, but perhaps he is finally putting it all together as a starter. Repeating his delivery and smoothing out his mechanics will be paramount.
