White Sox's Jairo Labourt: Signs minor-league deal
Labourt inked a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Tuesday, James Fegan of The Athletic Chicago reports.
Labourt was released by the Tigers on May 22, but he'll head to Double-A Birmingham after coming to terms with Chicago. He last surfaced in the big leagues during the 2017 season, posting a 4.50 ERA and 1.83 WHIP with four strikeouts across six innings out of the bullpen.

Jairo Labourt: Released by Tigers again
Labourt was released by the Tigers on Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
The release marks the fourth time Labourt has been let go this year. He began 2018 with Detroit and passed through Cincinnati and Oakland before ending up back with the Tigers, who now have parted ways with him for the second time. The southpaw reached the majors for the first time with Detroit last season but walked seven batters in six innings after walking 23 in 22 innings at the Triple-A level. He'll need serious improvements in his control if he's to eventually make an impact at the major-league level.

Labourt agreed to a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Wednesday.
Labourt bounced around between organizations throughout spring training, most recently getting released by Oakland two weeks ago. The 24-year-old reliever was with the Tigers' organization for the majority of the past three years (six appearances at the major-league level in 2017). He is slated to open up this season back at Triple-A Toledo.

Labourt was released by the A's on Wednesday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Labourt had been designated for assignment by the Tigers, Reds and A's within a span of three weeks and has now been released. The 24-year-old lefty has talent, though, as he recorded a 2.44 ERA in 66.1 innings split between the top three levels of the minors last season. He'll likely sign a minor-league deal somewhere and could push for a callup in a bullpen role later this season or in 2019, depending on his landing spot.

After pitching six innings over six games, Labourt's time at Oakland's spring training has come to an end. In that time, he amassed seven walks and gave up four hits, all of which resulted in him surrendering three runs. Although Labourt could see time in Oakland's bullpen this season, it's unlikely that he'll be used in many high-leverage situations.

It's been a busy week for the left-handed reliever, as Labourt was claimed by the Reds and optioned to Double-A shortly thereafter, only to eventually end up claimed by Oakland. He'll compete for a bullpen role, taking the roster spot of Brandon Moss, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Labourt has been claimed off waivers by the Reds on Friday, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Labourt was designated for assignment after the Tigers signed Francisco Liriano. The 23-year-old lefty walked more batters (30) than he struck out (25) in 28 innings at Triple-A Toledo and in the majors last year. He likely was promoted too quickly -- in 44.1 innings at High-A Lakeland and Double-A Erie, he posted a very solid 58:10 K:BB. He's a potential future relief weapon, but his fantasy value is likely to be limited this year.

The 23-year-old lefty has spun useful stretches for Double-A Erie (2.64 ERA) and the Mud Hens (2.45), while striking out 79 innings over 66.1 minor-league innings (which also includes a stint at High-A Lakeland). Labourt will pitch in low-leverage spots but could flash enough dominance to make a case for a bigger role in 2018.

Gulp. Labourt has had a rough 2016 in the Tigers system. He has always struggled with control, but has amazing pure stuff. His path to the majors will be as slow as molasses in January, and he might even end up firing heat in the pen. But Labourt is too valuable to give up on just yet.

His kryptonite as a pro has always been his control, or lack thereof, and that was once again the case this spring, as he walked four batters in two innings. He has some of the best pure stuff in the farm system, but as long as Detroit keeps him on the starting pitching track, it will be a slow road to the majors.

Tigers' Jairo Labourt: Lands on 40-man roster
Labourt was added to the Tigers' 40-man roster Friday.
Labourt, another acquisition stemming from the David Price trade, struggled in debut with the Tigers organization, recording a 6.31 ERA and 1.70 WHIP as well as a 34:15 K:BB in 35.2 innings with High-A Lakeland, but there's reason to believe the hard-throwing lefty could develop into a productive pitcher in due time. That being said, he's still years away from competing at the major-league level so it seems this move was made in order to protect Labourt from being selected in the Rule 5 Draft.
