Rangers' Tyler Wagner: Outrighted to Triple-A
Wagner cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports.
The Rangers now have 38 players on the 40-man roster, which gives them some flexibility for upcoming moves. Wagner has a 7.71 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 8:8 K:BB in 14 innings at Triple-A this year.

Rangers' Tyler Wagner: Shipped to Triple-A
Wagner was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Wagner hasn't necessarily impressed this spring, allowing six runs on 13 hits across eight innings. He pitched well in the majors and minors in 2016, but an undisclosed injury shut his season down early and eventually led to him being subjected to waivers. He'll head back to Triple-A in 2017, where the 25-year-old will look to work his way back to the big leagues.

Rangers' Tyler Wagner: Struggles in first spring game
Wagner (undisclosed) gave up two runs over two innings Monday against the Indians.
In those two innings, Wagner was pegged with four hits and a walk. While this wasn't an ideal outing for him, Wagner should improve moving forward. During his time in the minors, Wagner has repeatedly shown the ability to shut down batters and limit runs. Over five games (26.2 innings) at Triple-A Reno in 2016, he allowed just nine runs, giving him a 3.04 ERA in that time.

Wagner (undisclosed) was claimed off waivers by the Rangers on Friday.
Wagner pitched well both in the majors and minors in 2016, but his season was cut short in May due to an undisclosed injury. The Rangers decided to take a chance on the righty, as he can either pitch as a starter or out of the bullpen. He'll likely compete for a back-end rotation spot during spring training if he's healthy.

It's not clear what's ailing Wagner, who most recently started Friday, tossing five innings and surrendering two runs. The 25-year-old owns a 3.04 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 26.2 innings at Reno this season.

Entering in relief of an erratic Shelby Miller in the third inning, Wagner gave up just two hits over his five frames. Wagner was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Monday, taking the roster spot of Socrates Brito.
Wagner, who was acquired from Milwaukee in an offseason trade, spent most of 2015 in Double-A, where he went 11-5 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. He had a brief stint with the Brewers and struggled mightily, allowing 11 earned runs over just 13.2 innings. Expect him to pitch in low-leverage situations for the time being.

Wagner has not yet pitched at the Triple-A level, as he spent most of 2015 at Double-A within the Brewers organization before a brief, three-start cup of coffee in the big leagues. During that stint, Wagner allowed 11 earned runs over just 13.2 innings, so the Diamondbacks won't be in a hurry to rush him back to the majors after acquiring him via trade back in January.

Diamondbacks' Tyler Wagner: Traded to the Diamondbacks
Wagner was traded to the Diamondbacks on Saturday in a five-player deal, ESPN's Keith Law reports.
While he has not yet been converted to a relief role, that seems inevitable for the 6-foot-3 righty. His minor league numbers are pretty impressive, but the stats don't match the scouting report, as Wagner has never been a prospect of note. Despite making three forgettable starts for the Brewers last year, he has not pitched at Triple-A yet, so that will likely be where Arizona assigns him at the start of the season.
