  • Ty France: Open to playing catcher

France is willing to consider playing catcher, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. France has never caught an inning either at the major- or minor-league level, but he did get some reps behind the plate at the Padres' alternate site in 2020 and has been viewed as an emergency catcher at a couple stops. Realistically, it's difficult to envision the 30-year-old France seeing substantial time at catcher at this point in his career, especially since he's evidently drawn free-agent interest from 10-plus clubs, per Feinsand.

  • Ty France: Becomes free agent

France elected free agency Friday. France refused an outright assignment to the minors, exercising his right to hit the free agent market instead. The 30-year-old slashed only .234/.305/.365 with 13 home runs over 140 games this season between the Mariners and Reds. France should be able to find a major-league deal somewhere, although perhaps not as an everyday player.

  • Reds' Ty France: Launches 13th homer

France went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Pirates. France took Jared Jones deep in the third inning and snapped a streak of 14 games without a home run. After a hot stretch initially upon joining the Reds, France had hit a skid, slashing .200/.193/.255 with zero homers over his last 14 games. The 30-year-old has five of his 13 homers with Cincinnati to go along with a .746 OPS in 160 at-bats since joining his new team.

  • Reds' Ty France: Smacks homer, stays hot

France went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 1-0 win over the Astros. France took Bryan Abreu deep in the seventh inning to plate the only run needed for the Reds to complete the sweep of the Astros. France hit his 12th home run of the year, matching last season's total in 37 fewer games. The 30-year-old went 9-for-11 in this Astros series, becoming the third player this season with multiple hits and an RBI in three straight games against Houston.

  • Reds' Ty France: Logs three hits, steal in win

France went 3-for-4 with a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 12-5 win over the Astros. France followed up his four-hit game Monday with another three hits Wednesday. The stolen base was his first of the season and second during a six-year MLB career. He's on a bit of a roll, going 14-for-32 (.438) with three doubles, five walks, four RBI and five runs scored over the last nine contests.

  • Reds' Ty France: Has four hits in win

France went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Monday's 5-3 win against the Astros. France got a hit in all four of his at-bats Monday, making it his second career four-hit game and the first since 2021. France has been a solid piece for the Reds since acquiring him in July. The 30-year-old is hitting .284 in 29 games with the Reds after struggling to a .223 average in his first 88 games of the season with the Mariners.

  • Reds' Ty France: Sitting against righty

France is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. The Reds' recent additions of Dominic Smith and Amed Rosario look to have cost France some playing time, as France will head to the bench Wednesday for the third time in the past six matchups with right-handed pitchers. France should continue to replace Smith at first base when the Reds face lefties, but Smith looks to be the preferred option at the position versus righties, and manager David Bell could rotate a number of players at the designated-hitter spot.

  • Reds' Ty France: Sitting down Thursday

France isn't in the Reds' lineup for Thursday's game versus Pittsburgh. France will get a breather during Thursday's series opener after going 2-for-11 with two RBI and two runs scored in Cincinnati's last series against Toronto. The newly signed Dominic Smith will get the nod to start at first base while Jonathan India serves as the DH, allowing Santiago Espinal to cover second.

  • Reds' Ty France: Sitting for series finale

France is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest against Kansas City. France will get a breather Sunday after going 3-for-6 across the first two games of the series. Spencer Steer will man first base and bat third against Royals right-hander Brady Singer.

  • Reds' Ty France: Getting evening off

France is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. France will get a respite for the series finale after he went 4-for-17 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run while starting each of the last five games at either first base or designated hitter. Spencer Steer will get the nod at first base Wednesday, while Jeimer Candelario serves as the Reds' DH.

France isn't in the Reds' lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins. France will get a breather Thursday after going 6-for-26 with two homers through his first seven games as a Red. Spencer Steer will get the starting nod at first base instead while Will Benson covers left field.

  • Reds' Ty France: Homers in win

France went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-2 win over Miami. France answered the Marlins' two-run fourth inning with a leadoff homer in the fifth. It was the second home run in as many games for France, who made a fifth consecutive start at first base. It appears he's settling in as the club's primary first baseman, regardless of which starter is on the mound. During his five-start run, the first three starts were against left-handers and the last two against righties.

  • Reds' Ty France: Connects first homer with new club

France went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 10-3 win over the Marlins. France was part of the Reds onslaught against the Marlins on Monday, blasting one of four homers by the group. It was his first homer as a member of the Reds in his fifth game since joining them. The veteran was designated for assignment by Seattle after managing a .662 OPS through 88 games and was 1-for-12 thus far in Cincinnati, so Monday's showing was a welcome sight.

  • Reds' Ty France: Draws fourth straight start

France will start at first base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Giants. France will make a fourth consecutive start at first base, though he'll be facing off against a right-hander (Logan Webb) on Monday after his previous three starts came versus lefties. He's gotten off to a slow start to his time with the Reds, recording just one hit in 12 at-bats. While France looks fairly secure as the Reds' primary first baseman against left-handed pitching, his spot in the lineup versus righties might be on shakier ground. He could lose work against righties once the lefty-hitting Will Benson (personal) is reinstated from the paternity list.

  • Reds' Ty France: Makes first start for new team

France started at first base and went 0-for-3 in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Giants. France made his first start for the Reds since being acquired earlier in the week. With Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) done for the season, first base has become a rotation involving Jeimer Candelario, Spencer Steer and France.

  • Reds' Ty France: Makes debut for Reds

France entered Wednesday's game in the eighth inning and went 0-for-1 in a 13-4 loss to the Cubs. France made his debut for the Reds, playing the final two innings at first base. He was acquired by the Reds on Monday, presumably to be a starter at first base, but he was not used Tuesday or Wednesday despite being in the team's dugout.

  • Mariners' Ty France: Designated for assignment

The Mariners designated France for assignment Tuesday. France was placed on irrevocable outright waivers Sunday and went unclaimed. The 30-year-old will have the option to accept an outright assignment to the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate or decline the assignment and elect free agency. Although France is having a down year with a .662 OPS through 88 games, he has a solid MLB track record and should garner interest if he hits the open market.

  • Mariners' Ty France: Placed on waivers

The Mariners placed France on irrevocable outright waivers Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. France is now eligible to be claimed by the 29 other teams in the league, but if no team is willing to foot the bill on the money remaining on his $6.78 million salary for 2024, the Mariners can send him to the minors. That being said, France has the option to decline reporting to the minors as a result of his MLB service time. Additionally, there's a possibility that he clears waivers and remains a member of Seattle's roster, something that happened with the Blue Jays' Kevin Kiermaier earlier in July. France has produced a disappointing .223 average with eight home runs, 31 RBI and 28 runs scored over 88 games with Seattle so far this season. Tyler Locklear is expected to be called up from Triple-A Tacoma and will get full-time at-bats at first base, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.com.

  • Mariners' Ty France: Multi-hit effort in win

France went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a double and a run in a win over the Angels on Thursday. France drove home the second of the Mariners' 11 runs with a first-inning fielder's choice and eventually came around to score. He has now hit safely in four straight games and reached base in nine of his last 10 contests, but walks and singles have been his calling card -- the veteran has just three extra-base hits over 86 plate appearances since returning from the injured list June 18.

  • Mariners' Ty France: Getting Saturday off

France isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Saturday's game against Toronto. France has recorded a base hit in each of his last three games, but he'll take a seat Saturday versus Yariel Rodriguez and the Blue Jays. As a result, Luke Raley will pick up a start at first base while Dominic Canzone, Julio Rodriguez and Mitch Haniger fill in the outfield from left to right.
