Garner had surgery to repair a left meniscus tear in December, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.
It's unclear if this was the cause of Garner's limited time on the field last season, but it seems like the issue has been alleviated regardless. He already threw two bullpen sessions at the Orioles' spring training complex, so it seems like he's back to his old self. The 29-year-old managed to play in the majors during the 2016 campaign, although he's not expected to be much of a factor in the bullpen competition this spring.

Garner has been invited to attend the Orioles' major-league camp.
An undisclosed injury limited Garner to pitching just 15.2 innings over six games last season. He's been successful at the Triple-A level in the past, as he compiled a 1.63 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 18 games (27.2 innings) at Triple-A Columbus in 2016. Garner will look to return to his old form once spring training gets underway.

Orioles' Perci Garner: Inks minor-league deal with O's
Garner agreed to a minor-league deal with the Orioles on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Garner put together a strong showing between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus in the Indians' organization in 2016, posting a combined 1.83 ERA over 78.2 innings pitched between the two levels. He had a chance to see some big-league action in 2017 but his season was ultimately cut short by injuries. He'll look to recreate his 2016 success in Baltimore's farm system this upcoming season.

The 28-year-old was released earlier in August while dealing with an injury but was brought back to offer depth at a more affordable rate. The former second-round pick of the Phillies sandwiched two good outings between two poor showings. Garner was drafted by Philadelphia in the second round of the 2010 draft. The big righty didn't pan out as the team planned, so he was dropped and later signed by the Indians in 2015. Garner was called up as part of roster expansions last year, but the results were mixed -- he made eight appearances and struck out 12 over 9.1 innings, yet gave up five runs and walked five. Garner is likely to start the 2017 campaign at Triple-A Columbus, but he'll be one of the first arms called upon when the big league team has a hole to fill in the coming months.
