The Red Sox outrighted Speas to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Speas passed through waivers unclaimed after being removed from the 40-man roster and will remain in the organization. The reliever has an 11.47 ERA this season at the Triple-A level.

  • Red Sox's Alex Speas: Departs 40-man roster

The Red Sox designated Speas for assignment Saturday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Speas will be removed from the Red Sox's 40-man roster to make room for Danny Jansen, who's coming over from Toronto via trade. • Red Sox's Alex Speas: Claimed by Boston

The Red Sox claimed Speas off waivers from the Astros on Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Speas was DFA'd by the Astros last week, and although he'll remain in Triple-A with his new organization, he'll claim a spot on the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old righty has accumulated a gaudy 10.38 ERA and 2.26 WHIP through 21.2 total innings in the minors while spending time with three different organizations. Barring significant improvement, a return to the majors is unlikely.

  • Astros' Alex Speas: Returns to Triple-A

Speas was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Speas will head back to Sugar Land after appearing in Friday's 6-1 loss to Minnesota, allowing one run on two hits and a walk while striking out two batters over a pair of frames on the mound. Shawn Dubin was recalled from Triple-A to replace him in Houston's bullpen Saturday.

  • Astros' Alex Speas: Recalled by Houston

The Astros recalled Speas from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday. The move comes with Houston placing right-hander Cristian Javier on the 15-day injured list due to right forearm discomfort. After the Athletics designated Speas for assignment May 8, he was picked up by the Astros two days later. Since then, the right-hander has appeared in four games with Triple-A Sugar Land, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over three innings. Speas will provide the Astros right-handed depth out of the bullpen.

  • Athletics' Alex Speas: Exits 40-man roster

The Athletics designated Speas for assignment Wednesday. He'll cede his spot on the 40-man roster to left-hander Easton Lucas, who was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Speas was acquired via trade from the White Sox last month and has held an ugly 12.08 ERA over 11 relief appearances this season with Las Vegas.

  • Athletics' Alex Speas: Headed to Oakland

The White Sox traded Speas to the Athletics on Saturday for cash considerations. Speas was DFA'd by the White Sox on Friday after being optioned to Triple-A Charlotte in spring training. He's had a rough start in the minors, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two over 2.1 innings in Triple-A. Speas will look to get a handle on his control issues with the Athletics after walking 41 over 57.2 innings last season across three levels.

  • White Sox's Alex Speas: Exits 40-man roster

Speas was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Robbie Grossman. Speas has a big arm, so he could draw interest via trade or waivers from a club hoping it can help him with his control issues.

  • White Sox's Alex Speas: Sent packing

Speas was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox on Monday, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports. Speas allowed three runs with a 3:6 K:BB over six innings this spring. Walks have always been an issue for the 26-year-old and they could prevent the 26-year-old from receiving high-leverage looks for the White Sox even as he has better stuff than most of their other relievers.
