Player Outlook
Jackson Chourio inked an eight-year, $80 million extension with the Brewers in November of 2023 before making his MLB debut, and he lived up to the hype during his rookie campaign and finished with 21 homers, 22 steals and a .275/.327/.464 slash line in 148 contests. However, the road wasn't smooth for the young outfielder, as he struggled mightily through the first two months of the season and had a .581 OPS at the end of May. Chourio then got comfortable and had an .883 OPS the rest of the way, which likely would have been enough to win him National League Rookie of the Year most seasons, but Paul Skenes and Jackson Merrill were even more impressive. Chourio's numbers were supported by a .278 xBA and .438 xSLG, so there's no reason to believe the production is unsustainable. He'll turn just 21 years old in March and has as much upside as anyone in the sport while coming off an already strong rookie year.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Dons platinum sombrero

Chourio went 0-for-5 with five strikeouts in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees. Chourio carried a hot bat in spring training with a 1.224 OPS and just seven strikeouts in 53 Cactus League plate appearances, but he nearly matched that total Opening Day. The 21-year-old had a chance to redeem himself during the ninth inning with the bases loaded, but he was instead punched out by former teammate Devin Williams to complete the platinum sombrero. Chourio will attempt to turn the page Saturday after Friday's team off day and get back to the .914 OPS he posted during the second half of the 2024 regular season.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Bagging hits in bunches

Chourio is 11-for-17 (.647) with six doubles, five RBI and three stolen bases over his last five spring games. Chourio started racking up hits almost as soon as the spring schedule began, and he piled up all kinds of them over the last week. Expectations are high for Chourio this season, and his recent results have done nothing to slow the momentum.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Sizzling this spring

Chourio went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs in Monday's Cactus League game against the Mariners. Chourio shined as a rookie and has picked up where he left off this spring, going 9-for-23 (.391) with a 3:2 BB:K while recording both a trio of doubles and steals. Chourio -- who turned 21 years old Tuesday -- will play regularly in 2025, and it looks like he will occupy a prominent spot in the batting order, as he has hit either leadoff or second in eight of the nine exhibition contests he has appeared in to date.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Will play some center field in 2025

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that Chourio will play some center field this season, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Chourio was primarily a center fielder in the minors, but the Brewers played him exclusively in the corner outfield spots in 2024 because, according to Murphy, Chourio "couldn't catch a flyball." The 20-year-old graded out with a plus-7 Outs Above Average in right field and a minus-1 OAA in left field last season. Murphy didn't reveal how much center field Chourio might play in 2025, but if he looks comfortable there, it would give the manager more potential lineup combinations.

Chourio went 2-for-5 with a double and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Mets. Chourio has four multi-hit efforts and two steals over his last eight contests. For the season, Chourio has impressed as a rookie with a .275/.327/.466 slash line, 21 home runs, 22 steals, 79 RBI and 80 runs scored over 147 contests.

Chourio went 1-for-2 with three walks, a grand slam and an additional run scored during Monday's 9-3 win over the Cardinals. • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: In Saturday's lineup

Chourio (ankle) will start in left field and bat second Saturday against the Reds. Chourio tweaked his right ankle during the first game of Friday's doubleheader and then sat out of the nightcap, but the 20-year-old rookie appears to be feeling fine after a night of rest. He's tallied a base hit in eight of his last nine games while slashing .333/.381/.564 with a homer, nine RBI and two steals in that span.

Chourio's grand slam in the fourth inning gave the Brewers the lead and proved to be the only offense the team could produce all night. • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Knocks in go-ahead runs

Chourio went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Tigers. The 20-year-old delivered a clutch two-out double in the sixth to give his team the lead for good. With this performance, Chourio now has a pair of multi-hit efforts and five RBI over his last four games. The rookie has had his share of up and downs, but he continues to be given opportunities as he's appeared in 55 of the Brewers 64 games this season despite his .216/.257/.347 line.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Sitting after three straight starts

Chourio is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs. Chourio had started each of the previous three games, but two of those starts came while the Cubs sent left-handers Justin Steele and Shota Imanaga to the mound. The rookie outfielder will hit the bench Thursday against right-hander Jameson Taillon and still looks to be stuck in a short-side platoon role in the corner outfield with Sal Frelick.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Sitting again Sunday

Chourio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Boston. Chourio will sit out a second straight matchup with a right-handed pitcher as Milwaukee looks to get the sweep against the Red Sox. The rookie has gone 2-for-19 in his last five games and looks to be losing playing time in the outfield to the likes of Sal Frelick, Christian Yelich, Blake Perkins and Jake Bauers.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Gets fourth straight start

Chourio will start in left field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Pirates. Chourio was on the bench for a stretch of four straight games from last Wednesday through Saturday, but he's now picked up starts in each of the subsequent four contests. Though he's reached base only twice over his last nine contests and carries a weak .579 OPS for the season into Wednesday's game, Chourio could nonetheless continue to see near-everyday playing time while Jake Bauers sees less time in the corner outfield and fills in at first base for the injured Rhys Hoskins (hamstring). Additionally, the struggling Blake Perkins -- who sat against right-handed starting pitchers both of the previous two days -- seems to have moved into more of a fourth-outfielder role of late.

  • Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Getting Wednesday off

Chourio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals. Chourio is hitting .357 with one stolen base over his first five games of May, but he's still slashing just .193/.233/.263 overall since April 16 and has seen his job security slip a bit as a result. The rookie will find himself on the bench Wednesday for the third time in seven games.
