  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Moves back to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Black to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday. Black will cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to outfielder Blake Perkins (calf), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. After getting recalled from Nashville on Aug. 12, Black started at designated hitter in five of the Brewers' ensuing nine games while going 2-for-15 with three walks against five strikeouts. Now that Black is out of the mix, the Brewers will likely rotate a number of players at DH, with Gary Sanchez, Jake Bauers and Perkins all being candidates to see upticks in opportunities.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Absent from lineup again

Black is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest against the Guardians. Since being recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Black has gone 1-for-11 over his four major-league appearances. He'll begin Sunday's contest in the dugout while William Contreras serves as the designated hitter for Sunday's series finale.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Taking seat Saturday

Black is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians. Black had started three of the Brewers' previous four games at DH, but he'll yield to William Contreras at the position Saturday while Gary Sanchez catches. Since being called up Monday, Black is 1-for-11 with two runs scored and an RBI.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Out of lineup again Wednesday

Black is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rangers. After starting each of the first four games upon being called up from Triple-A Nashville last Wednesday, Black has now been out of the lineup for three straight contests, with two of them coming against right-handed pitching. Jake Bauers will garner a second straight start at first base.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Returns to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Black to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday. After being called up from Nashville last Tuesday, Black got a look in a near-everyday role, starting in five of the Brewers' ensuing seven games. However, the 23-year-old managed just five hits while striking out eight times in 22 at-bats in his first taste of the big leagues, prompting the Brewers to pull the plug on him with Christian Yelich (back) returning from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Black should continue to see regular playing time at Nashville and will likely be one of the top options for a call-up if the Brewers need an extra corner infielder at any point.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Expected to be called up

The Brewers are expected to add Black to the roster prior to Tuesday's game against the Rays, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. Black got off to a sluggish start at Triple-A Nashville this season but was hitting .328/.425/.612 with five home runs and three stolen bases across his last 17 games. The 23-year-old has plenty of past experience at second and third base but has been used almost exclusively at first base this season. That would seem to point to Black mostly being a threat to Jake Bauers' playing time, although it's possible the Brewers will use Black some at third base, too. Black hit 18 homers and stole 55 bases between Double-A Biloxi and Nashville in 2023 and should be scooped up in most fantasy formats where he's available.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Busy this spring

Black is 4-for-17 (.235) with four runs, two steals and a 2:5 BB:K through six games this spring. Black is one of Milwaukee's top prospects and posted a .942 OPS over 39 games with Triple-A Nashville last season, and though, he has not hit like that this spring, he is getting opportunities, as his 17 at-bats are tied for third among players in big-league camp with the Brewers. He spent most of his time at third base in 2023, but per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the bulk of his action this spring has come at first base. The Brewers have a lot of options in the infield, and he faces an uphill battle to break camp with the big club. However, he has one of the more potent bats of the bunch, and he will continue getting chances to work his way into the mix.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Continues to impress

Black went 14-for-38 (.368) with two home runs, three doubles, five RBI, 12 stolen bases and a 5:8 BB:K over his last 10 games with Double-A Biloxi. Black has both gotten on base and swiped bags all season, and through 54 games he has now racked up a whopping 38 steals while being caught only four times. He is starting to pile up hits as well, with four of his nine multi-hit efforts on the year coming since June 11. With his speed and an OPS north of .900, there is a lot to like about Black from a fantasy perspective.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Dazzling at Double-A

Black has gone 15-for-46 (.326) with three home runs, 12 RBI, 11 stolen bases and a 13:9 BB:K over his last 13 games with Double-A Biloxi. Black hit just .212 over his first 11 games at the Double-A level, but he has put his power, on-base skills and speed on display all season, and his batting average is starting to follow suit. Given his hot start and the fact he was a first-round pick in 2021, he could find himself moving up prospect rankings when those are re-drawn.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Playing in AFL

Black (shoulder) has played in six Arizona Fall League games to date, batting .231 with a 5:9 BB:K and two stolen bases. Black missed the final two months of the minor-league season with a fractured left scapula, but he's starting to make up for the lost at-bats by taking part in the AFL. The Brewers also plan on giving the 22-year-old exposure to second base, shortstop and center field during his time in Arizona.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Out for season

Black was diagnosed with a fractured left scapula Tuesday and will miss the rest of the 2022 season, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Black suffered the injury July 10 while making a diving attempt in the field, and it will bring his campaign with High-A Wisconsin to an early end. The 22-year-old isn't expected to require surgery and could be available to play in the fall and/or winter leagues. He'll finish the year with a .281/.406/.424 slash line, four home runs, 35 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 64 games for the Timber Rattlers.

  • Brewers' Tyler Black: Performing well in High-A

Black has a .292/.415/.461 slash line with four homers, 11 steals on 15 attempts and a 33:35 BB:K through 49 games for High-A Wisconsin. There's a lot to like about the well-rounded profile Black brings to the table. While he most likely isn't a future star, he does a little bit of everything and as a hitter is reminiscent of David Fletcher, just without the defensive ability to play shortstop. The question for Black as he rises through the organization will be whether he can hit for enough power to be a starting second baseman in the big leagues. For what it's worth, the Brewers have also given him some exposure at third base and in center field, but he doesn't really have the arm to be effective at either of those spots.
