Player Outlook
At age 28, Luis Rengifo logged career highs in games played (147) and plate appearances (541), but his performance cratered. He went from .300/.347/.417 in 2024 to .238/.287/.335 last season, losing more than 140 points in OPS. Strangely, he went from 24 steals to just 10 even with 237 additional PA. Never much of a power bat, Rengifo hit nine homers and slugged just .335, a bottom-five mark among qualified hitters. With such a steep decline overall and particularly in the SB category, Rengifo lost most of his fantasy appeal rather quickly last season. Entering his age-29 campaign, Rengifo still brings dual eligibility to the table, qualifying at second base and third base. A free agent this winter, Rengifo put together three consecutive above-average offensive seasons with the Angels before the dramatic fall-off in 2025. He's probably best suited for utility duty in 2026 and beyond.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Signs one-year deal with Brewers

The Brewers signed Rengifo to a one-year contract Friday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Rengifo had a disappointing walk year with the Angels last season, slashing just .238/.287/.335 with nine home runs and 10 stolen bases over 147 contests. However, he hit a solid .273/.323/.431 across the three seasons prior to that and will turn just 29 later this month. Rengifo should be the new favorite to start at third base for Milwaukee, though he also offers the versatility to operate in a super-utility role, if that's what the club prefers.

  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Blasts ninth homer

Rengifo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Brewers. Rengifo's playing time has picked up a bit while he has filled in for Yoan Moncada (ankle) at third base over the last few days, though Moncada was able to appear as a pinch hitter Thursday. Rengifo has gone 10-for-53 (.189) over 16 games in September while slipping into a utility role as the Angels get a look at some prospects in an injury-riddled infield. For the season, Rengifo has nine homers, 43 RBI, 53 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and a .240/.291/.340 slash line, with that .631 OPS being his worst since 2021.

  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Sitting in second straight

Rengifo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. For the second day in a row, Rengifo will take a seat in favor of rookie Christian Moore, who will cover second base and bat fifth in the series finale. At 69-80, the Angels are effectively eliminated from playoff contention, so it wouldn't be surprising if the club moved Rengifo into a utility role over the final two weeks in order to open up regular playing time for Moore, who is viewed as the organization's long-term future at the keystone.

Rengifo isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Seattle, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. Despite collecting a base hit in each of the first two games of the series, Rengifo will retreat to the bench to begin Saturday's contest. Christian Moore will start at second base instead during his first day back in the majors and bat fifth against right-hander Bryan Woo.

Rengifo went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a double in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Royals. Rengifo made his mark early with a first-inning homer off Noah Cameron, but the Angels proceeded to squander the lead by allowing four solo shots. This was Rengifo's first multi-hit effort since Aug. 10, which was also the date of his last long ball. He hit just .196 with one extra-base hit, a triple, over the 19 games between homers. For the season, the versatile 28-year-old has posted a .247/.299/.348 slash line with eight homers, 36 RBI, 51 runs scored and eight stolen bases across a career-high 129 games.

  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Multi-hit performance in win

Rengifo went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's victory over the Rangers. After Taylor Ward gave the Angels a one-run lead to start the sixth inning, Rengifo padded the advantage a few batters later with a two-run homer. The switch-hitting infielder has posted just a .612 OPS this season after topping .720 in each of the previous three years. While never known for his power, his 13 doubles, one triple and five home runs through 100 games translate to a weak .328 slugging percentage. Despite his struggles, Rengifo has continued to see steady playing time, thanks in part to his defensive versatility but also due to injuries to fellow infielders Yoan Moncada (hand), Chris Taylor (hand) and Christian Moore (thumb).

  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Picks up third steal

Rengifo went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Mariners. Rengifo has put together a steady July, batting .279 (24-for-86) for the month. That hasn't come with much other production -- he has just four extra-base hits, all of which are doubles, during the month, and he's added a 3:19 BB:K. He's mired in a 29-game homer drought and has just four home runs and three steals while slashing .241/.281/.319 through 98 contests this season.

Rengifo went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 4-0 win over Atlanta. Rengifo ran his hitting streak up to five games, and he's logged multiple knocks four times during this span. The switch-hitting utility man has been heating up at the dish, slashing .313/.378/.507 with six extra-base hits and eight RBI to go with 10 runs scored and one stolen base over his last 74 plate appearances. Rengifo should continue to play nearly every day despite the recent arrival of second baseman Christian Moore, although the former could be challenged for action at third base once Yoan Moncada (knee) is back in the mix.

  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Homers in Saturday's win

Rengifo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 9-1 win over the Astros. Rengifo opened the scoring with a second-inning blast, and that would ultimately be all the Angels needed in the win. The light-hitting infielder has tapped into a little more power lately -- three of his four homers this season have come in his last eight games. He's still batting just .220 with a .557 OPS, 17 RBI, 19 runs scored and two stolen bases over 69 contests. Despite his struggles at the plate, Rengifo has maintained a fairly regular spot in the lineup as a utility player.
