  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Outrighted to Triple-A

Kennedy was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Kennedy was designated for assignment Tuesday and went unclaimed on waivers. He'll head back to Louisville, where he's posted a 32:8 K:BB across 40.2 innings while working as a starter this season.

  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Summoned to big leagues

The Reds selected Kennedy's contract from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday. Kennedy has operated as a full-time starter at Louisville this season, compiling a 6.86 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB across 40.2 innings. Though he made two starts with Cincinnati in 2023, the Reds don't have an opening in the rotation at the moment, so Kennedy is slated to operate as a multi-inning option or mop-up man out of the bullpen. The Reds created room for Kennedy on the active roster by placing right-hander Emilio Pagan (triceps) on the 15-day injured list.

  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Sent to Triple-A

Kennedy was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Kennedy had been a candidate to get a start or two this week, but he was needed for two innings of relief in Sunday's loss to the Cubs. Unfortunately for him, that means the Reds need to replace Kennedy with a fresh arm for Monday's series opener with the Mariners.

  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Needed in relief Sunday

Kennedy worked two innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's 15-7 loss to the Cubs, giving up four earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out one batter. The Reds likely would have preferred to stay away from Kennedy on Sunday so he could fill the opening in the team's depleted rotation Monday against the Mariners, but the right-hander was ultimately needed for mop-up duties after Cincinnati burned through six pitchers in the game's first seven innings. With Kennedy likely out of consideration for a spot start during the three-game series with the Mariners after his 42-pitch relief appearance Sunday, the Reds are expected to summon another pitcher from Triple-A Louisville to fill the void in the rotation Monday.

  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Summoned to majors

Kennedy was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Kennedy will be available in relief for now but could be a candidate for a start or two while Hunter Greene (COVID-19) is sidelined. The righty has posted a 5.06 ERA over two starts and two relief appearances with the big club this season.

  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Heads to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Kennedy to Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. Kennedy covered four innings of long relief in Friday's 10-8 loss to Arizona and might not have been available for another day or two, so the Reds opted to swap him off the 26-man active roster in favor of a fresh arm in right-hander Daniel Duarte, who was called up from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move. Cincinnati has a doubleheader coming up next Friday versus the Cubs that will create a temporary need for a sixth starter, so Kennedy could be headed back to the big club in short order to fill the opening in the rotation.

  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Pitches well in spot start

Kennedy permitted just three hits and one walk over five shutout frames Friday, taking a no-decision against the Blue Jays. He struck out two. Kennedy dealt with a little traffic early, as the Jays had multiple chances with runners in scoring position over the first three innings but failed to capitalize. The right-hander then retired the side in order in the fourth and fifth before being pulled. Kennedy might be headed back to the minors if the Reds decide Nick Lodolo (tibia) is ready to return next week.

  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Set for start Friday

Kennedy will start for the Reds on Friday versus the Blue Jays, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The 29-year-old right-hander is likely getting a brief look in the Cincinnati rotation while the Reds wait for Nick Lodolo (lower leg) to complete his minor-league rehab assignment. Kennedy owns a career 6.42 ERA in 33.2 major-league innings and is not a recommended fantasy streamer.

  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Likely to join rotation

Kennedy is expected to join Cincinnati's rotation and make a start during this weekend's home series versus the Blue Jays, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Kennedy previously made a five-inning spot start in his Reds debut July 4, but since returning from Triple-A Louisville on Aug. 7, he's made one two-inning appearance out of the bullpen. However, with the Reds designating Luke Weaver for assignment Wednesday, Kennedy now looks to be the next man up to fill the team's vacant fifth starter role. Kennedy looks poised to start either Friday or Saturday, but he may be in line for only a brief stay in the rotation, as the Reds could get Nick Lodolo (tibia) back from the injured list as soon as next weekend.

  • Reds' Brett Kennedy: Rejoins parent club

The Reds recalled Kennedy from Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Kennedy will head to the bullpen for the time being and will give the Reds a much-needed fresh arm, though depending on how extensively he's used in the next few days, he could be an option to join the rotation when Cincinnati requires a fifth starter again. The Reds optioned Lyon Richardson to Triple-A in a corresponding move after Richardson was lit up for four runs in three innings ins his big-league debut in Sunday's loss to the Nationals. Kennedy's lone previous appearance with the Reds came back on July 4 -- also against the Nationals -- when he gave up four earned runs on five hits and two walks over five innings.
