  • White Sox's Jacob Amaya: Fading into platoon role

Amaya is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. After making 14 starts at shortstop in a 16-game stretch from Aug. 30 through Monday, Amaya now finds himself on the bench for the second day in a row. He's sat in each of the White Sox's last three matchups with right-handed pitchers, as Amaya looks to have moved into the short side of a platoon at shortstop with the lefty-hitting Nicky Lopez. Since joining the White Sox on Aug. 27 after being claimed off waivers from the Astros, Amaya is slashing .244/.311/.268.

  • White Sox's Jacob Amaya: Out of Saturday's lineup

Amaya is not in Saturday's lineup against the Athletics. Amaya has started 12 of the White Sox's last 13 games at shortstop since being recalled Aug. 30. He's hit .257 with two RBI and two runs scored in that span. Nicky Lopez will take over at shortstop in Amaya's place.

  • White Sox's Jacob Amaya: Carving out regular role

Amaya will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game versus the Guardians. Amaya will make a fourth consecutive start at the shortstop position, and he'll have started 11 of the last 12. He's hitting just .233/.281/.267 so far with the Pale Hose and profiles as more of a utility infielder over the long haul, but Amaya should continue to receive regular reps down the stretch for the rebuilding White Sox.

  • White Sox's Jacob Amaya: Hits in three straight

Amaya went 1-for-4 with a double Wednesday against the Orioles. Amaya drew his sixth straight start, all of which have come at shortstop. He's hit ninth in the order but has at least one hit in three consecutive games. Amaya maintained just a .638 OPS across 302 plate appearances while in Triple-A this season, so expectations should be limited.

  • White Sox's Jacob Amaya: Joining big-league club

Amaya was added to the 26-man roster by the White Sox ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Rangers, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports. Amaya was just claimed off waivers from the Astros on Monday and will report directly to the major-league club. The 25-year-old has hit just .223/.313/.336 across 291 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. Amaya is capable of handling shortstop, second base and third base and should see a decent amount of playing time down the stretch for the rebuilding White Sox.

  • Astros' Jacob Amaya: Designated for assignment

The Astros designated Amaya for assignment Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. With Hector Neris joining the Astros' bullpen, Amaya will lose his spot on the 40-man roster. The 25-year-old infielder went 0-for-1 during his lone game with Houston in May, and he's slashed .223/.313/.336 across 291 plate appearances at Triple-A Sugar Land.

  • Astros' Jacob Amaya: Acquired by Houston

The Astros acquired Amaya from the Marlins on Saturday in exchange for cash considerations and Valente Bellozo, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Amaya was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land. Amaya, 25, is a glove-first shortstop who has mostly just kept his head above water in the minors with his bat, although he has displayed decent on-base skills. He should get regular reps at shortstop with Sugar Land and offers solid depth at the position in the event something happens to Jeremy Pena.

  • Marlins' Jacob Amaya: DFA'd by Miami

The Marlins designated Amaya for assignment Tuesday. The 25-year-old missed out on Miami's Opening Day roster and has now been removed from the 40-man roster. Amaya made his big-league debut last season with four appearances for the Marlins and had a .750 OPS in 128 games at the Triple-A level.

  • Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Optioned back to Triple-A

Miami optioned Amaya to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Amaya went 2-for-9 with no walks and one strikeout during his brief stay on the Marlins' major-league roster. The 24-year-old middle infielder has slashed .278/.346/.472 with nine home runs and 35 RBI in 58 games this season at the Triple-A level and should get another big-league opportunity later this summer.

  • Marlins' Jacob Amaya: RBI, steal in debut

Amaya went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a steal in Sunday's victory over the Nationals. Amaya opened the scoring in his first major-league at-bat, driving in Nick Fortes with a fielder's choice in the second inning. The 24-year-old Amaya then added his first stolen base later in the frame. Amaya was solid in Triple-A this season, slashing .278/.346/.472 with nine homers, 35 RBI and a steal. He should work on the weak side of a shortstop platoon with Joey Wendle in the short term.

  • Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Promoted to big leagues

Amaya was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville by the Marlins on Saturday. Amaya has put together a solid season in Triple-A this year, slashing .277/.344/.469 with nine homers and 35 RBI through 241 plate appearances. Jean Segura (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day IL in a corresponding move, meaning Amaya might see regular reps at shortstop while Joey Wendle shifts to third base -- a temporary change that could become permanent if Amaya holds his own.

  • Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Sent to minors

The Marlins optioned Amaya to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. With Jazz Chisholm and Luis Arraez seemingly locked in as the Marlins' Opening Day starters in the middle infield, Amaya was never a realistic candidate to break camp with the big club. After being acquired from the Dodgers in January in the deal that sent Miguel Rojas to Los Angeles, Amaya will likely have a clearer path to reaching the big leagues in 2023 with his new organization. He was productive in his first taste of the Triple-A level with Oklahoma City in 2022, slashing .259/.368/.381 with eight home runs and three stolen bases across 351 plate appearances.

  • Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Lands on 60-day IL

Amaya was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday with an unspecified injury. The 24-year-old was added to the 40-man roster in November and split the 2022 campaign between Double-A Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Amaya had a .749 OPS in 84 games at Triple-A, and it's unclear how much the injury will affect his offseason program.

  • Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Headed to spring camp

Amaya will attend the Dodgers' big-league camp this spring, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Amaya spent last season at the team's alternate training site after hitting a combined .260 with seven homers and 71 RBI across two levels in 2019. He has considerable defensive talent and a good eye at the plate but hasn't yet demonstrated an ability to hit for power.

  • Dodgers' Jacob Amaya: Joins 60-man player pool

Amaya was added to the Dodgers' 60-man player pool Monday, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports. He will report to the Dodgers' alternate training site at USC after being a non-roster invitee during spring training. Amaya, who turns 22 on Sept. 3, has displayed excellent plate skills in the minors, but he has never posted an ISO higher than .132 in full-season ball. He most recently hit .250/.307/.375 with one home run and one steal in 21 games at High-A.
