  • Astros' Kaleb Ort: Goes on paternity list

The Astros placed Ort on the paternity list Wednesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Ort will miss a minimum of one and a maximum of three games while welcoming a new member to the family. His spot on the active roster and in the bullpen will be absorbed by Seth Martinez, who was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land.

  • Astros' Kaleb Ort: Rejoins bullpen

The Astros recalled Ort from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Ort has turned in three spotless innings during his time with the Astros this season, striking out six along the way. He'll provide the bullpen with a fresh right-handed arm.

  • Astros' Kaleb Ort: Sent back to Sugar Land

The Astros optioned Ort to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Ort registered two appearances with the Astros after being recalled from Triple-A on Saturday, throwing three shutout innings while striking out six batters. Despite his solid showing, he'll be sent back to the minors in order to clear room for Jake Bloss (shoulder), who was reinstated from the IL on Thursday. Ort has been dominant in the minors (0.75 ERA in 12 innings) since joining the Astros organization in late May, so it's possible he returns to Houston in the near future.

  • Astros' Kaleb Ort: Recalled to majors

The Astros recalled Ort from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Since being claimed off waivers from Baltimore in May, Ort has allowed just one earned run in 12 innings with Sugar Land while striking out 17 batters and walking four. His dominant performance has now earned him another shot in the majors, and he figures to work in middle relief while with the Astros. Luis Contreras was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Astros' Kaleb Ort: Claimed by Houston

Ort was claimed off waivers by the Astros and optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Ort was acquired by the Orioles in February but struggled to a 12.08 ERA in 14 outings at Triple-A Norfolk, which led to him being removed from the 40-man roster. The 32-year-old made 21 appearances for the Red Sox last season and posted a 6.26 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 23 innings, and he should serve as organizational depth for the Astros.

  • Orioles' Kaleb Ort: Acquired by Baltimore

The Orioles acquired Ort from the Phillies on Monday in exchange for cash considerations. Ort had been designated for assignment by Philadelphia earlier in the day but quickly found a new home. He'll compete for a spot in the Orioles' bullpen but does have options remaining.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Placed on injured list

The Red Sox placed Ort on the 15-day injured list Friday with right elbow inflammation, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Ort's placement on the IL frees up a spot for James Paxton to return from paternity leave. Ort holds a 6.26 ERA and 1.57 WHIP through 23 innings this season and will be eligible to return July 22.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Likely to serve as opener Wednesday

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said after Tuesday's loss to the Marlins that Ort will likely be the team's opening pitcher for Wednesday's game versus Miami, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Ort worked as the opener June 19 for the Red Sox, and he went 2.1 innings against the Yankees while allowing two runs in the first game of a doubleheader. The right-hander will likely get a chance to go through the Miami lineup one time before giving way to the rest of the Boston bullpen, so he doesn't project to have a chance at qualifying for a win.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Exits in third as opener

Ort allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out four over 2.1 innings as the opener in Boston's 6-2 win over the Yankees in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader. Ort allowed a couple of hard-hit balls, including a two-run home run, in the first inning then settled down and managed to give the Red Sox seven outs on 32 pitches. The reliever was called up to open Sunday's matinee after Saturday's game was rained out. He took the roster spot of Tanner Houck (face), who was placed on the 15-day injured list, but it's unclear if Ort will remain in Boston.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Recalled from Triple-A

Boston recalled Ort from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Ort will give the Red Sox a fresh arm in the bullpen, with Ryan Sherriff heading to Triple-A in the corresponding transaction. In his 12 appearances with Boston thus far, Ort has struggled with a 7.30 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over 12.1 innings.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Sent to Triple-A

Ort was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. He was recalled Friday and didn't get into a game before being sent back to the minors. Zack Littell, who was acquired from Texas, takes Ort's spot in the bullpen.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Back in majors

Ort was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Friday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. Ort will rejoin the Red Sox's bullpen as a result of Kutter Crawford (hamstring) landing on the 15-day injured list Friday. Ort has struggled in 12 major-league appearances this season, holding a 7.30 ERA and 1.78 WHIP across 12.1 frames.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Faulty support

Ort allowed two runs on two hits while striking out one over one inning during Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh. Ort was partially victimized by shoddy fielding. He allowed a leadoff double to Jason Delay, who eventually scored on a sacrifice fly that wouldn't have happened without the fielding miscues. In between, there was a poor decision by first baseman Triston Casas, and another one by outfielder Masataka Yoshida which was compounded by third baseman Rafael Devers failing to cut off a misguided throw to plate. Ort's allowed four runs over five innings for a 7.20 ERA, which is an improvement on his spring ERA of 9.58.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Activated Saturday

Ort (personal) was reinstated from the restricted list Saturday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Ort was unavailable for Friday's series opener in Toronto due to his vaccination status, but he'll rejoin Boston's bullpen now that Canada no longer has a vaccine requirement for visitors. Over his last five appearances, the right-hander has posted a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in four innings.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Back in majors

Ort was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. The 30-year-old was demoted to Worcester last week but will quickly rejoin the big-league club with Tanner Houck (back) headed to the injured list. Ort has appeared in 10 games for Boston this year and has a 9.49 ERA, 2.03 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB across 12.1 innings.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Called up by Red Sox

Ort was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Ort began the season in Worcester and picked up 15 saves while recording a 3.12 ERA, 46:16 K:BB and 1.14 WHIP in 34.2 innings over 33 appearances. He's made just one major-league appearance but will join Boston's bullpen after Michael Feliz was designated for assignment Friday. Although he pitched in high-leverage situations in the minors, it's not yet clear whether he'll have similar opportunities in the big leagues.

  • Red Sox's Kaleb Ort: Sent back to Worcester

Ort was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. The right-hander joined the Red Sox last Friday, but he did not make an appearance during his four games with the club. Martin Perez's (illness) return from the COVID-19 IL pushes him back to Worcester for the time being, but he could rejoin the big-league roster should Boston need to add an arm during the final three weeks of the regular season.
