  • Reds' Ricardo Cabrera: Slides down defensive spectrum

Cabrera slashed .252/.331/.399 with 11 home runs and 19 steals in 105 games for Single-A Daytona before being placed on the 7-day injured list Sept. 7 with an undisclosed injury. Signed in 2022 as a shortstop, Cabrera has slid down the defensive spectrum, getting 55 starts at third base and 14 starts at second base in addition to his 17 starts at shortstop this season. Cabrera's soft-hit rate (24.9%) was higher than his hard-hit rate (21.8%) at Single-A, which is troubling, as his bat will need to drive his value given the way his defense is trending. Cabrera turns 20 in October and is listed at 6-foot, 201 pounds, so he'll either need to improve his conditioning or his offensive output in the coming years.

  • Reds' Ricardo Cabrera: Impressive stateside debut

Cabrera has a .325/.471/.525 slash line with one home run and three steals in 11 games in the Arizona Complex League. Cabrera was seen as one of the top hitters in the 2022 J-15 international signing class, but he underwhelmed with a .253/.363/.380 slash line in the hitter-friendly Dominican Summer League. Not only has he trimmed his strikeout rate from 22.2 percent to 19.6 percent, but he has bumped his walk rate from 7.2 percent to 19.6 percent while also hitting for more power.
