Jacob has a spot on the Padres' roster for the National League Division Series against the Dodgers.
Jacob was optioned to Triple-A El Paso in late September, though that came after the minor-league season had concluded. The righty reliever spent most of the campaign with El Paso but logged seven appearances over two stints with San Diego, posting a 2.45 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 19:2 K:BB over 14.2 innings. Jacob pitched more than one inning in five of the seven outings and topped out at 3.2 frames against Tampa Bay on Aug. 31.

Rotowire
The Padres recalled Jacob from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.
Jacob has allowed one earned run in 6.1 frames with the Padres this season, though he's posted a 5.14 ERA in seven innings since being sent back to the minors Aug. 8. Nonetheless, he'll rejoin the big-league squad to give the bullpen an additional fresh arm, taking the place of Sean Reynolds.

Padres' Alek Jacob: Moves back to minors
Rotowire
The Padres optioned Jacob to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.
Jacob struck out three and gave up a hit over a scoreless 22-pitch inning of relief in Wednesday's loss to the Pirates. Though Jacob likely would have been available for Thursday's series finale in Pittsburgh, the San Diego bullpen as a whole had been used heavily of late, so he was the odd man out as the Padres called up a fresh long-relief arm in Carl Edwards from El Paso.

Rotowire
The Padres recalled Jacob from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.
Jacob has spent the entire season with El Paso, putting up a 5.59 ERA and 1.88 WHIP through 46.2 innings. Despite his lackluster performance, he'll be called upon to provide San Diego's bullpen with a fresh arm, replacing Adam Mazur on the active roster.

Padres' Alek Jacob: Sent to El Paso
Rotowire
The Padres optioned Jacob to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.
Jacob spent most of last season at Double-A San Antonio but appeared in three games for the Padres in July, throwing three scoreless innings while striking out five and walking one. The 25-year-old had a relatively successful spring as well, and he could receive a midseason promotion to San Diego's bullpen if he stays hot in Triple-A.

The move was backdated to Friday, so Jacob could return as soon as Aug. 12 if his inflammation has subsided by then. In three appearances during his brief time with the team, Jacob struck out five of the 10 batters he faced while not allowing a run or a hit. Jacob's roster spot will go to Jackson Wolf, whose contract was selected ahead of his big-league debut.

Padres' Alek Jacob: Arrives in majors
Rotowire
The Padres selected Jacob's contract from Double-A San Antonio on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Jacob fell to the 16th round of the 2021 MLB Draft following a four-year NCAA career at Gonzaga, but he's done nothing but dominate minor-league hitters to the tune of a 1.82 ERA and 138:25 K:BB in 104 professional innings. The 25-year-old right-hander could prove to be a weapon in relief for the Padres as he completes his swift ascent to the big leagues.

Rotowire
Jacob (shoulder) was assigned to Double-A San Antonio on April 19 and has since made two relief appearances for the affiliate, giving up one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out three over two innings.
Jacob's season debut was slightly delayed while he worked his way back from a right shoulder injury. The 24-year-old right-hander is one of the better relief prospects in the San Diego system and is coming off a 2022 campaign in which he submitted a 2.68 ERA while striking out 77 over 57 innings across stops with three affiliates.
