  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Leading candidate for saves

Megill is a top candidate to pick up saves after Devin Williams was traded to the Yankees on Friday, Brian Murphy of MLB.com reports. Megill served as Milwaukee's primary closer for much of 2024 due to a long stint on the injured list for Williams, and Megill had an excellent season, converting 21 of 24 save opportunities while maintaining a 2.72 ERA and 1.01 WHIP to go along with a 50:14 K:BB. Murphy also mentioned Abner Uribe (knee), who began the season as the primary ninth-inning option, as a candidate for saves.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Gives up walk-off grand slam

Megill (0-3) took the extra-inning loss Wednesday versus the Cardinals, allowing four runs (three earned) on a hit and two walks over two-thirds of an inning. Megill got the last out of the ninth inning, but he loaded the bases with one out in the 10th and Nolan Arenado cashed in for a walk-off grand slam. This was Megill's first appearance since July 23 after he missed four weeks with a back injury. The right-hander has a 3.15 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 40:10 K:BB over 34.1 innings this season. He added 20 saves, two blown saves and three holds while functioning as the closer in the first half, but Devin Williams is in that role now, so Megill will likely fill a setup role.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Cleared for rehab assignment

Megill (back) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Thursday. Megill has been sidelined for all of August with a lower-back injury but has been cleared for game action. The reliever leads the Brewers with 20 saves on the season, but he'll be used in a setup role upon his return from the 15-day injured list with Devin Williams now in the fold for Milwaukee.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Ready to face hitters

Megill (back) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Monday, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Megill will head out on a rehab assignment if all goes well during Monday's throwing session. The right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list July 29 due to a lower-back strain and likely won't need more than one or two tune-up outings in the minors before rejoining the Milwaukee bullpen. Megill leads the Brewers with 20 saves on the season, but he'll likely have to settle for setup work moving forward after closer Devin Williams returned July 28 from a season-long stay on the IL.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Throwing bullpen Saturday

Megill (back) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Saturday will mark Megill's first time throwing off a mound since a lower-back injury forced him onto the injured list near the end of July. It remains unclear how far away he is from rejoining Milwaukee's bullpen, but the return of Devin Williams means that Megill will almost certainly be moved into a setup role once he's activated.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Heads to IL with back injury

The Brewers placed Megill on the 15-day injured list Monday with a lower-back injury, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. Megill will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the damage, but the team has already deemed it bad enough to require a stint on the IL. Between this injury and Devin Williams' return to the closer role, fantasy managers can no longer rely on Megill as a source of saves.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Blows second save

Megill (0-2) was charged with a blown save and the loss Saturday versus the Nationals after he allowed two runs on two hits over 1.1 innings. He struck out two and walked none. The right-hander entered with two outs in the eighth inning and stranded a pair of runners with a strikeout, but he was unable to maintain a one-run lead in the ninth as CJ Abrams clubbed a two-run homer. The blown save ends a stretch of 12 straight conversions for Megill, who also hadn't given up a run in his previous 10 outings. The 30-year-old remains locked in as Milwaukee's closer for now, but Devin Williams (back) began a rehab assignment Saturday and should reclaim the job early in the second half.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Locks down save No. 18

Megill allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Rockies. The Brewers scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take a one-run lead, and Megill came through in the bottom of the frame for his 18th save despite giving up a two-out single. The right-hander has converted 12 straight save chances and hasn't allowed a run across his past nine appearances, which has improved his ERA to 1.59 and WHIP to 0.99, respectively.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Secures save Friday

Megill tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn a save against the Cubs on Friday. Megill threw nine of 11 pitches for strikes and quickly worked through the Cubs' 6-7-8 hitters to finish the 4-2 victory. He's converted 11 straight save chances since his last blown opportunity May 20. During that stretch, he's produced a 1.32 ERA over 13.2 frames. Megill's season ERA is down to 1.71 alongside a 30:7 K:BB.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Posts 16th save

Megill earned a save against Texas on Monday, striking out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning. Megill hit a batter with two outs in his inning of work, but it didn't cost him any runs. The right-hander was able to notch his 10th straight successful save conversion -- he hasn't blown an opportunity since May 20. Megill has proven to be a more-than-adequate fill-in for rehabbing closer Devin Williams (back), as he's tied for eighth in MLB with 16 saves (in 17 opportunities) while posting a 1.85 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 30:7 K:BB through 24.1 innings.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Secures 15th save

Megill struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Angels. Megill needed just seven pitches (six strikes) against the middle of the Angels' order to close out this contest. He's pitched four of the last five days, but he's thrown just 12 pitches over his last two outings. He's now 15-for-16 in save chances with a 2.01 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB through 22.1 innings this season. If Megill is unavailable for Thursday's series opener versus the Padres due to his recent workload, a potential save chance would likely go to Joel Payamps or Hoby Milner.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Secures save Saturday

Megill notched a save against the Reds on Saturday, allowing one run on one hit and one walk in one inning. A trio of Milwaukee pitchers combined to shut out Cincinnati over eight innings before the ball was handed to Megill for the ninth. The right-hander didn't make things easy, issuing a walk and allowing a run-scoring double before getting his first out, but he was ultimately able to slam the door for the save. Megill has been great in his first venture as a closer this season, going 12-for-13 in save tries while posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB over 20 innings. He appears to have a firm grasp on ninth-inning duties for the Brewers, at least until Devin Williams (back) is able to return from the injured list, potentially in the latter half of July.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Records 11th save

Megill earned the save Wednesday in a 5-4 win over the Blue Jays, working around a hit and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning. After Toronto logged three straight hits off Hoby Milner to start the ninth, the Brewers turned to Megill to shut the door. He got off to a shaky start, allowing two inherited runs to score after a hit and a walk, though he'd ultimately settle in and close out the 5-3 victory. The 30-year-old Megill has now converted Milwaukee's last three save chances while allowing just one earned run in his last seven appearances. Megill's converted 11 of 12 save opportunities this year while working to a 1.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB across 19 innings.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Earns 10th save

Megill earned a save against the Blue Jays on Monday, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning. Entering with a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning, Megill allowed a two-out single to Spencer Horwitz but retired Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the next pitch to secure his 10th save of the season. Megill has posted four straight scoreless appearances and is now 10-for-11 in save chances this season. He owns a 2.00 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB and should continue to be the primary closer in Milwaukee until Devin Williams (back) returns from the injured list.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Avoids IL, but could need time off

Megill (elbow) could be unavailable to pitch for a few days, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Megill was struck on the right elbow by a comebacker in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs. While X-rays came back negative and he has avoided the injured list for the time being, Megill might need a little time for the elbow to calm down. Joel Payamps would seem to be the most likely candidate for saves while Megill is unavailable.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Avoids fracture

Manager Pat Murphy said after Tuesday's loss to the Cubs that Megill did not suffer a fracture on the line drive that hit his arm in the 10th inning, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports. It remains unclear whether or not Megill will need to spend time on the injured list, but the 30-year-old reliever seems to have avoided the worst. The righty has been operating as Milwaukee's primary closer with Devin Williams (back) on the injured list, though the ninth inning may be given to Hoby Milner or Joel Payamps if Megill is forced to miss time.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Exits with injury

Megill was removed from Tuesday's game against the Cubs after getting hit in the right arm by a line drive, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Megill entered Tuesday's game in the 10th inning and threw three pitches to Mike Tauchman before getting taking a 99-mph line drive off his right (throwing) arm. Megill immediately came out of the game and will presumably head into the clubhouse for imaging. The Brewers should have more information on his status following Tuesday's contest.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Notches seventh save

Megill gave up a hit and struck out three in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his seventh save of the season in a 7-5 win over the Marlins. After blowing his first save of the season the night before, Megill bounced back and fired 11 of 14 pitches for strikes to get the job done, with five of his fastballs clocking in at 99 mph or higher. The right-hander sports a 1.98 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB through 13.2 innings this season, and with Devin Williams (back) just now beginning to toss a baseball, Megill figures to handle closing duties with Milwaukee for at least another couple months.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Blows save against Miami

Megill blew the save in Monday's loss to the Marlins. He allowed one run on two hits and no walks over one inning while striking out one. Megill gathered the first two outs of the ninth inning on three pitches before yielding a single to Nick Gordon. Gordon promptly stole second and then was subsequently driven home via an Otto Lopez single to tie the game. This is Megill's first blown save of the season, so he should maintain his role as the Milwaukee closer.

  • Brewers' Trevor Megill: Registers sixth save

Megill earned a save against the Astros on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out three baters over one inning. Megill gave up a two-out single to Jake Meyers but was otherwise dominant, recording all three of his outs via strikeout. He threw 12 of 16 pitches for strikes and recorded his fifth save over five appearances in March. Megill appears to be locked in as Milwaukee's closer, as no other Brewer has notched a save this month.
