Player Outlook
Ben Williamson appeared to have a chance to begin 2026 as a starting infielder for the Mariners, but his trade to the Rays complicates his path to immediate playing time. Williamson did not exactly make the most of his opportunity last season as he saw 85 games with the club and had 14 extra base hits as a rookie. Williamson has been a good contact and patient hitter in his time with the organization, but he has hit just nine homers in 825 professional plate appearances over the course of those three seasons. Williamson would ideally profile as a reserve infielder off the bench rather than an everyday starter because he has the defensive skills to play anywhere on the infield in a pinch. If you liked Matt Duffy years ago, then you'll enjoy Williamson on your roster. Mixed league managers can rightfully scroll past him in the draft room queue.

  • Rays' Ben Williamson: Heading to Tampa Bay

The Rays acquired Williamson from the Mariners on Monday as part of a three-team trade involving the Cardinals, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports. Brendan Donovan is headed to Seattle as part of the deal. Williamson is a glove-first third baseman who slashed just .253/.294/.310 with one homer in 85 regular-season games for the Mariners in 2025. He is now stuck behind Junior Caminero in Tampa Bay, so Williamson could begin the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Durham.

  • Mariners' Ben Williamson: Records fifth steal

Williamson went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Angels. Williamson has started to make a larger impact on the basepaths with three steals over his last six games. He's still not doing much else, though -- during that span, he's gone 5-for-20 (.250) with two RBI, one walk and no extra-base hits. That's right in line with his production all year, as he's batting .254 but he has a poor .598 OPS with five steals, one home run, 21 RBI and 35 runs scored as a fixture at the bottom of the Mariners' lineup.

  • Mariners' Ben Williamson: Logs steal in loss

Williamson went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in Monday's 6-0 loss to the Brewers. Williamson had gone 0-for-8 over his previous three games, and this was just his second multi-hit effort in July. The rookie third baseman continues to earn his playing time through steady defense rather than big contributions on offense. For the season, he's slashing .259/.293/.319 with one home run, 19 RBI, 35 runs scored and three steals across 76 contests, giving him minimal upside as a contact hitter with little pop at the bottom of the order.

  • Mariners' Ben Williamson: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Williamson (back) is back in the lineup and batting eighth for Tuesday's game against the Angels. Williamson was scratched from the lineup Sunday against the Marlins due to back spasms, and Seattle had an off day Monday. With Dylan Moore (hip) placed on the 10-day IL earlier Tuesday, Williamson should see continued regular playing time. The rookie third baseman is slashing .310/.356/.429 with one home run, seven RBI, 10 runs scored and a 3:8 BB:K across his first 45 big-league plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Ben Williamson: Managing back spasms

Williamson was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins due to back spasms, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. The 24-year-old woke up with back spasms after going 2-for-5 with four RBI and a run during Saturday's contest, so he didn't start at third base as initially expected. Williamson will have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery before potentially missing more time.

  • Mariners' Ben Williamson: Scratched Sunday

Williamson was removed from Sunday's lineup against the Marlins for unspecified reasons, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. The 24-year-old is presumably dealing with injury after initially being penciled in to start at third base, but no reason has been provided for his absence yet. Williamson has gone 8-for-19 with a double, five RBI and five runs during a five-game hit streak.

Miles Mastrobuoni will receive the start at third base in place of Williamson.

Getting the start at third base and batting eighth, Williamson forced extras by leading off the seventh inning with a no-doubt homer to left field off Jose Berrios, tying the game at 3-3 and giving the 24-year-old his first career long ball. Williamson has started four of five games at the hot corner since receiving his first big-league promotion, batting .250 (5-for-20) with two RBI and four runs scored.
