  The Mets and Megill (elbow) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.5 million contract Thursday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports. Megill pitched well when healthy in 2025, posting a 3.95 ERA and 89:33 K:BB over 68.1 innings, but he was limited to only 14 starts before undergoing Tommy John surgery. The righty will miss the entire 2026 season but is under team control for 2027.

  Megill (elbow) is expected to need Tommy John surgery, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The right-hander is still getting opinions on the best path forward, but surgery on his elbow appears to be the most likely outcome. Megill hasn't pitched for the Mets since June 14, and full Tommy John surgery, rather than a hybrid or internal brace procedure, would sideline him for at least the entire 2026 season. He wraps up the current campaign with a 3.95 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 89:33 K:BB through 68.1 innings over 14 starts.

• Mets' Tylor Megill: Set for further evaluation

  Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Megill is being further evaluated as the team seeks to find the source of the pitcher's right elbow discomfort, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Megill has been shut down after he experienced tightness in his pitching arm following his most recent rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. Mendoza noted Wednesday in regard to Megill's status that Tommy John surgery has not been discussed, though that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be in the future. The righty has been out since mid-June due to elbow trouble, and his availability for the rest of the season is very much in doubt.

• Mets' Tylor Megill: Endures rocky rehab start

  Megill (elbow) allowed five earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three in two innings during his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Syracuse. He also hit two batters and threw a wild pitch. After turning in a 21:6 K:BB and posting a 1.93 ERA over 14 innings in his first four rehab starts between Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton, Megill has regressed while making his last two minor-league appearances for the Triple-A club. Between those outings, Megill has allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and four walks across six innings. Though he's now tossed at least 65 pitches in each of his last four appearances in the minors and looks to be stretched out enough to handle a starting role, Megill's poor showings his last two times out have probably removed him from consideration for a spot in New York's rotation once he's activated from the 60-day injured list. The Mets look content to proceed with rookies Jonah Tong and Brandon Sproat at the back end of the rotation, so Megill could be ticketed for a long-relief role with the big club once his rehab assignment ends.

• Mets' Tylor Megill: Strikes out five in rehab outing

  Megill (elbow) struck out five batters and allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks over four innings in a rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Syracuse. After tossing five innings in the third start of his rehab assignment Aug. 22, Megill has now covered four frames his last two times out at Triple-A, but he was able to get stretched out to 79 pitches Tuesday and looks ready to return from the 60-day injured list. The Mets haven't confirmed that Megill will be deployed as a starter upon his activation, though he looks like a decent bet to get a look in that role while Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea have struggled since the beginning of August to put their standing in the rotation on shaky ground. If Megill is inserted into the rotation, he could be reinstated for Sunday's game in Cincinnati, though the Mets may prefer to wait until early next week to make a roster move in order to give him an extra day or two to recover from Tuesday's outing with Syracuse.

  Megill (elbow) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. The Mets had left open the possibility that Megill would return from the 60-day injured list and rejoin their rotation Friday against the Marlins, but they've elected to give the right-hander one more rehab start in order to extend his pitch count to around 80. Working his way back from a sprained UCL in his right elbow, Megill has been superb in three rehab outings between Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton, spinning 10 scoreless frames with a 17:2 K:BB.

Megill surrendered three hits and a walk but managed to emerge from the outing unscathed, getting his pitch count up to 41. It was the first outing for the right-hander in nearly two months, so it's going to take Megill a while to get built back up. Megill is working his way back from a right elbow sprain.

• Mets' Tylor Megill: Struggles in loss Saturday

  Megill (5-5) took the loss against Tampa Bay on Saturday, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 3.2 innings. Megill's final line wasn't disastrous for fantasy managers who started him since half of the six runs he allowed were unearned due to his own fielding error, but this was nonetheless an uninspiring outing by the right-hander. He actually held a 2-1 lead after three frames, but things fell apart for Megill in the fourth. In that inning, he served up a leadoff homer to Junior Caminero, then gave up three more hits, issued two walks, hit a batter and uncorked a wild pitch before being pulled with two outs and the bases loaded. Perhaps the only positive from Megill's performance is that he managed to notch five punchouts despite the short outing, reaching that mark for the ninth time over his past 10 games. Megill has posted an excellent 11.7 K/9 on the campaign, but his 3.95 ERA and 1.36 WHIP are less impressive.

• Mets' Tylor Megill: Could be facing roster squeeze

  Megill might be the odd man out of the Mets' rotation when Frankie Montas (lat) and Sean Manaea (oblique) are ready to come off the injured list. Both veteran pitchers are currently on rehab assignments, with Montas on target for a late-June season debut and Manaea tracking to join the 26-man roster in early July. Even if the Mets stick with a six-man rotation at that point, they'll have seven starting pitchers available. Megill and David Peterson both have a minor-league option remaining, but the latter has been the more consistent pitcher this season with a 2.80 ERA and 1.26 WHIP through 12 starts and 70.2 innings, compared to Megill's 3.76 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 13 starts and 64.2 innings. A trade would also solve the logjam, but as things stand, Megill might get bumped to Triple-A Syracuse in a few weeks despite being on pace for the best season of his career.

Megill cruised through four innings before allowing two runs in the fifth. He generated an impressive 14 whiffs on 82 pitches and was backed by an early outburst from the Mets' offense. On the year, the 29-year-old owns a 3.76 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 84:31 K:BB across 64.2 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Rays next weekend.

• Mets' Tylor Megill: Settles in after first inning

  Megill allowed four runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Tuesday. Megill allowed four baserunners in the first inning, and they all came around to score. He then retired nine straight batters and 16 of the last 17 he faced, and he left with the Mets ahead 5-4. That lead didn't last, as Huascar Brazoban blew a save chance in the ninth, but it was still a show of resilience for Megill to overcome his ugly first inning. He threw 105 pitches (69 strikes) in his longest outing since he went 6.1 innings versus the Nationals on April 27. Megill is now at a 3.77 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 79:28 K:BB through 59.2 innings over 12 starts. The right-hander's next start is projected to be at Colorado this weekend.

  Megill (4-4) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks over 5.2 innings in a 6-4 victory over the White Sox. He struck out six. The right-hander ran out of gas in the sixth inning, loading the bases on a single and two walks before getting the hook after 100 pitches (64 strikes), but Jose Butto got out of the jam without adding any runs to Megill's ledger. While he fell short of his second quality start of the season, Megill did collect his first win since April 21, snapping a five-start winless streak that had seen him stumble to a 6.17 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 36:12 K:BB over 23.1 innings. The 29-year-old lines up for a tough test in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week against the Dodgers.

Megill tied his season high in strikeouts Wednesday despite failing to complete five innings, and he was pulled after just 85 pitches. Megill has thrown more than five frames in just three of his 10 starts. Across 48 innings this year, Megill owns a 3.56 ERA and a 66:23 K:BB.

Megill was able to get through the first two innings without much resistance. However, the 29-year-old right-hander ran into trouble in the third frame, when he allowed seven baserunners and four runs and was mercifully lifted after issuing a bases-loaded walk to Oswald Peraza. Despite not making it out of the third inning, Megill tossed 72 pitches (37 strikes). He has yielded four earned runs in each of his last three starts, and for the season he has a 3.74 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 56:22 K:BB across 43.1 innings. Megill is slated to take on the Red Sox at Fenway Park next week.

  Megill (3-3) pitched 4.2 innings in a loss against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. Megill continues to rack up punchouts -- he's now struck out at least six batters in each of his past four starts -- but he otherwise struggled to contain Chicago's top-scoring offense. The right-hander fell behind by two runs after the first half-inning, and he gave up a single run in each of the third and fourth frames, with the final one coming on a Dansby Swanson solo homer. Megill began the campaign by allowing no more than two earned runs in each of his first five starts, but he's faded a bit of late, yielding three or more runs in each of his past three outings. That's pushed his season ERA up to a still-solid 3.10.

Megill held the Nats to one run on just one hit (a Dylan Crews homer -- the first given up by Megill this season) through his first six innings. However, he'd allow two more hits in the seventh before turning it over to Jose Butto out of the bullpen, who allowed both inherited runners to score. Still, it's the first time Megill has made it through six innings this year, and he's yet to allow more than three earned runs in a start. His ERA sits at a sparkling 1.74 with a 1.13 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB across six outings (31 innings).
