A brutal showing in spring training (.080/.179/.080 across 28 plate appearances) confirmed Raburn wouldn't break camp with the Nationals, so the team decided to free the veteran up to pursue other opportunities. He'll look to catch on elsewhere, though his time as a viable platoon bat in the outfield may well be up.

There was no reason given for Raburn's removal from the starting nine, but expect an update if Raburn is suffering from some sort of ailment. Blake Perkins will take the field in his place.

Nationals' Ryan Raburn: Making spring debut
Raburn (side) will start in left field and bat sixth in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
Raburn was initially slated to play in the Nationals' exhibition opener Feb. 23 against the Astros, but he was scratched from the lineup with side tightness and has been sidelined ever since. After nearly two weeks off to recover, Raburn looks to be sufficiently healthy, as illustrated by the Nationals' decision to immediately deploy him in the outfield rather than as a designated hitter. In any case, Raburn was always on the outside looking in for an Opening Day roster spot, so the time he has already missed this spring may have been enough to spoil his chances.

Raburn will not play in Friday's spring game due to side tightness, MLB.com's Jamal Collier reports.
Raburn was scratched from the lineup card while Andrew Stevenson will take his spot in left field. It doesn't sound like his injury should be too much of a concern as the club stated that it was a precautionary move to pull him from the game. Barring any setback, Raburn should be back on the field in the near future.

Raburn was scratched from Friday's spring game against Houston, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
There was no reason given for the removal of Raburn at this time. The outfielder did miss the last five weeks of the 2017 campaign with a back injury but more should be known in the near future regarding his current status. In 25 big-league games last year, Raburn slashed .262/.304/.431 with two home runs and six RBI. Andrew Stevenson will be plugged into his place for Friday's contest.

Nationals' Ryan Raburn: Agrees to minors deal with Nats
Raburn (back) agreed to a minor-league deal with the Nationals, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
He ended the year on the DL with a back injury, having last played for the Nationals on July 22. It is unclear if this deal comes with an invite to spring training, but regardless, Raburn is highly unlikely to see significant work in the majors in 2018. He was essentially a replacement level player last year (negative-0.1 fWAR), which has been the case for the last two seasons.

Nationals' Ryan Raburn: Transferred to 60-day DL
Raburn (back) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports.
With Trea Turner (wrist) coming off the 60-day DL, the Nationals needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Raburn will be unable to come off the DL until Sept. 21 at the earliest, so it seems like a long shot that he would get back into the flow of things in time to be included on the postseason roster.

Nationals' Ryan Raburn: Moved from bereavement list to DL
Raburn (personal) was activated from the bereavement list Wednesday and subsequently placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left trapezius strain, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
The veteran outfielder apparently got a little banged up diving for a ball in Friday's contest, so he'll head to the DL to rest his injury. The DL stint is backdated to July 23, so he can return on Aug. 2 if he's ready. No corresponding move needed to be made since he was moved straight from the bereavement list, so look for Adam Lind to continue logging starts in left field until Raburn is back in the fold.
