Brandon Moss: Released by Oakland
Moss cleared waivers and was released Tuesday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Moss was designated for assignment after the A's claimed reliever Jairo Labourt off waivers. This could be the end of the 34-year-old's major-league career, as he stated previously that he may retire if not offered another major-league contract. If he does retire, he'll be closing the book on an 11-year career in which he hit .237/.314/.452 with 160 home runs.

Athletics' Brandon Moss: Designated for assignment
Moss was designated for assignment Sunday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
There had been rumblings this season about the Athletics potentially attempting to trade Moss to another team following his January acquisition, but this suggests the trade market was cold on the utility man. He hit a horrendous .207 in 2017 and has never really came close to surpassing the .300 mark in his MLB career. Moss will now be subject to waivers, but the level of interest in the 34-year-old appears murky. If he clears waivers, he can opt to remain in Oakland, but with his position blocked by the likes of Matt Olson and Khris Davis, this doesn't seem likely.

Athletics' Brandon Moss: May be moved elsewhere
Moss, who the Athletics acquired from the Royals on Monday, could be traded elsewhere, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
With first base earmarked for Matt Olson (hamstring) and Khris Davis in line to serve as the team's primary designated hitter, Oakland doesn't have much use for Moss, who lacks defensive utility and is owed $7.25 million in 2018. Given that Moss is coming off a season in which he slashed a woeful .207/.279/.428, it's unlikely that there will be much demand for his services from other teams.

Athletics' Brandon Moss: Dealt to Oakland
Moss was traded to the A's from the Royals on Monday along with Ryan Buchter in exchange for Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
Coming off a down season in which he hit .207/.279/.428, Moss will return to Oakland, where he spent three seasons earlier in his career. While his average fell for the fourth straight year, Moss managed to retain his power and hit 22 home runs over 118 games, marking the fifth time over the last six seasons that he's hit at least 20. Should Moss see regular time at the DH spot with Oakland, he could be an inexpensive source of power to prospective owners.

Royals' Brandon Moss: Not in Sunday lineup

The 34-year-old regressed this year and hit to the tune of a .208/.238/.431 line, down from the .225/.300/.484 line he turned in over the 2016 season.

Royals' Brandon Moss: Not in lineup Monday
Moss is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports.
Moss will head to the bench for a second straight game as Lorenzo Cain takes over DH duties in his place. Manager Ned Yost has been deploying position players as his designated hitter recently to give them a game off their feet, so Moss could lose out on a few starts in the final week if that trend continues.

Royals' Brandon Moss: Out of lineup Wednesday
Moss is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
This comes as no surprise given that a lefty (Brett Anderson) is toeing the rubber for the opposition. Moss has logged just 62 at-bats against lefties this season. Jorge Bonifacio will serve as the designated hitter in Moss's absence.

Moss went 2-for-2 with a grand slam and walked once in Tuesday's victory over the White Sox.

Royals' Brandon Moss: Plates four in win
Moss went 2-for-4 with a double, a three-run home run and four RBI during Sunday's win over Minnesota.
This was Moss's first multi-hit game since Aug. 24, and he posted an ugly .107/.167/.214 slash line during that 10-game stretch. The veteran has provided owners with 19 homers, but his 40 RBI, 36 runs and .201 average aren't moving the fantasy needle in many settings.
