Hayes went 4-for-14 (.286) this spring, but he was never in a position to challenge for a roster spot. The Rangers have the catcher position on lock at the big league level, so Hayes will head to the minors where he'll serve as organizational depth.

Rangers' Brett Hayes: Inks deal with Rangers
Hayes signed a minor league contract with Texas on Wednesday, Stefan Stevenson of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
The contract includes an invitation to spring training and marks his fifth team in the last six seasons. Hayes is a career .205 hitter and will likely serve as organizational depth in a system that includes Jonathan Lucroy and Robinson Chirinos.

Diamondbacks' Brett Hayes: Traded to White Sox
Hayes was traded to the White Sox on Wednesday for cash considerations, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
Hayes had been with Triple-A Reno, where he batted .161/.175/.196 across 56 at-bats (18 games). He last appeared in the big leagues in 2015, when he played in 14 games for the Indians.
