Cubs' Carlos Corporan: Returns to minors
Corporan was reassigned to minor-league camp Wednesday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The veteran backstop faced an uphill climb to a roster spot given the presence of Willson Contreras, Miguel Montero and Kyle Schwarber, but Corporan's .200 batting average in 20 spring at-bats ultimately sealed his fate. The 33-year-old should be nothing more than an organizational depth piece this season.

Corporan signed a minor league deal with the Cubs on Saturday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Corporan hit a combined .197/.246/.333 between the Triple-A affiliates for Tampa Bay and Miami in 2016, so it's difficult to see him working as anything beyond emergency depth for the Cubs. He hit .178/.244/.299 in 2015 with the Rangers, his last round of big league action.

Marlins' Carlos Corporan: Signs minor league contract with Marlins on Wednesday
Corporan signed a minor league contract with the Marlins on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Corporan was released by the Rays on Friday, but it didn't take long for another club to seek out his services behind the plate. The 32-year-old was a bit lackluster at the plate with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate, batting just .200 with two home runs and nine RBI in 65 at-bats, so he'll likely just act as organizational depth going forward if he can't improve his dreary numbers at the plate.

Carlos Corporan: Released by Rays
Corporan was released by the Rays on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The Rays added fellow catcher J.P Arencibia on a minor league deal Friday, so it's clear the organization was ready to move on from Corporan, who was hitting .200 at Triple-A Durham prior to his release. He is now a free agent.

Yankees' Carlos Corporan: Dealt to Yankees
Corporan was traded to the Rays on Saturday for cash considerations, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports.
Corporan joined the Yankees on a minor league deal that included a spring training invite earlier in the offseason. With just one day left before Opening Day, the Yankees flipped him to the Rays, showing that they're confident in their catching duo of Brian McCann and Austin Romine. As for Corporan, it's unclear where he fits in at the major league level in Tampa Bay behind Hank Conger and Curt Casali. He could be sent down to the minor leagues to provide organizational depth at catcher.

Yankees' Carlos Corporan: Signs minor league contract with Yankees on Tuesday
Corporan signed a minor league contract with the Yankees on Tuesday that will likely include an invitation to spring training, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Corporan spent 2015 as the Rangers' backup catcher, but had his season ended in mid-July with a thumb injury after hitting a mere .178 with three home runs and 15 RBI. He'll likely just add some depth at catcher in the organization with Brian McCann slated as the starter for now and prospect Gary Sanchez possibly coming to the majors soon.

Carlos Corporan: Opts for free agency
Corporan (thumb) refused his outright assignment Tuesday and instead opted for free agency, the Rangers' official site reports.
Corporan was outrighted last Wednesday, but rather than stick with the Rangers, he'll test the open market. In 33 games with the big club this season, the catcher fell below the Mendoza Line, recording a .178/.244/.299 line with three homers in 107 at-bats.

Corporan was outrighted from the 40-man roster Wednesday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Corporan underwent surgery last week on his injured left thumb, however he is expected to be healthy for the start of spring training. The 31-year-old registered 107 at-bats with the Rangers this season, but he was incredibly inefficient at the plate, recording a .178/.244/.299 slash line to go along with three home runs (second lowest total when recording 100+ at-bats in his career). It remains to be seen whether he will accept his assignment to Triple-A Round Rock or try to sign with another club during the offseason.

Rangers catcher Carlos Corporan has thumb surgery Friday
Rangers catcher Carlos Corporan underwent left thumb surgery Friday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Corporan missed about six weeks during the season with a left thumb sprain, but was able to return in September. The ailment was apparently still persisting at the end of the season, but the 31-year-old should be back in time for the start of spring training.
